Hi (AGAIN) I don't mean to flood.
but today I was cleaning out their cage a little and saw that Rocksteady who is creshed (not the usualy bowl hair cut crested but more like a mohawk-ish...? its weird lol) seems as though the back of his head is bald.
OR maybe i didn't notice it before? but i mean... i think I would know if he was bald previously.
I looked for feathers - the back of his head and neck is white and I would be able to see it on the ground since i have brown wooden flooring but all i see is dark down-like fluff. and possibly a tail or wing.. maybe ONE is going through a little molt? not sure but NO white feathers.
are crested regularly bald just below their head? but above their necks?
Just concerned thanks a bunch everyone!

I don't know about the crested being different. Could someone be plucking? As for the other feathers, might it be time for your youngsters to molt into their adult feathers? A couple of weeks ago I was seeing feathers, all types, so at least one of mine decided a molt was a good idea. It wasn't anything like last July though when they all did. There were feathers enough to go around. Everywhere.
Probably others can help you more.

dcompt they were born late July... Would that sound right? (Molt) they don't look beat up like they are going through one.
I hope nobody is a plucker! But he's been running away from George now. I don't know if he just doesn't want to be by her or he's just doing it.
I hope its a molt..I haven't seen him go through one just yet!
Where do they start molting?
Or there's isnt a certain spot they start at?

Re: Rocksteady bald? - can some cresteds have bald patches?
Mine never really looked rough, or much different when they were molting, maybe a little more low key than usual. I didn't notice a particular spot. There was an assortment of flight and tail feathers the whole time and drifts of small or downy feathers. Mine all molted around mid-July last summer.
As for when you could expect a molt, I really don't know, because I'm not sure what triggers it. I just know it when it happens - extra vacuum cleaner bags required!
