Silly birds!

I have a lot of fake foilage in my finches flight cage, but have been searching out some other real plants that are finch safe. They had some huge lovely spider plants at Lowe's on sale so I separated them and put a few in their flight cage.

One female will grab one of the long strands, fly up with it and...stop right before the entrance to the nest. Because that's as long as the strand is. LOL I've probably seen her do this at least 30 times since last night. She is bound and determined to get that plant IN her nest, though!!! I'm almost desperate enough to cut some stands off for her so she can take them up. LOL She's VERY territorial about that strand, too. If anyone comes near her, she chases them away.

(THIS is why I have them where I can readily see them. I enjoy their antics, noises, etc. so much!)

That is very funny! I have some finches who will try to take a whole millet spray from the clip to their nest repeatedly and I'm just laughing as they struggle earnestly. Eventually, they eat the millet and take the stem to the nest.

They make me laugh everyday. And just for that, they are priceless.

asher78 they can be so silly at times!! I have a pair of zebras that are constantly doing things I don't understand. My boy Charlie will rip a brand new millet spray off the clip and snap it into smaller parts and try to jam them into the small dish they use as a nest. The dish is only big enough to fit one finch comfortably.. so the millet piece just falls over the side every time but he keeps picking it up and trying again! If I give them Timothy hay he will take the stiffest, hardest, longest pieces and try to stand them up straight in the dish. Eventually he will stick them through the cage bars out the back of the cage where they just fall to the floor. They also have a few small shredder toys hanging from perches they would try to drag to their nest while they were still connected to the perch. Never quite accomplished that one either. And then I had a period of time where they would put all nesting material into their water and started laying eggs in the water!! Sometimes I wish I could understand their thought process!!
