catching

I have two loose finches. I can not catch them and it's driving me nuts. Is there a fool proof way? They are loose in a 300 square foot room. I have a net and just can not get them.

Can you turn off the lights and just have a small night light, enough for you to see but dark enough so they will go to roost, then you can sneak up on them. The other option, during the day, is to have a cage with door propped open and spray millet inside (maybe even a bathtub, if they are big on baths).

Hopefully you've already caught them, but I've seen people use a spray bottle with water. If you get them just wet enough, it will slow them down.

i put a small cage out with the spray millet inside then they went inside to get it. I have never had this trouble before. crazy day.

Glad you were able to catch them finally, Canucky.

Mine also escape now and then when I am cleaning their cages (they are FAST) and they fly around a room about 600 sq ft. They tease the parrots at the other end by landing on the parrots cages (and giving me a heart attack).

But within about 5 minutes max I do manage to catch them by hand. I have a net but have never been able to catch one with the it - it's always by hand - go figure.

good catch. thank god I have mine in an aviary and dont have to worry about them getting out. the odd couple who have got out of the main aviary have still been safe, they can only get as far as my storage/breeding cage area and have always flown straight back into the main aviary within a few minutes.
