Rox, how do you keep up the maintenance on 4 aviaries? Sounds like a lot of work, but I understand perfectly the need to expand your family of birds. In fact, I failed to limit myself to 2 birds at the recent bird mart. I came home with 2 cordon blues, 2 green singers, 1 orange weaver, 1 goldbreasted waxbill, and 2 societies. I think I've maxed out the space in my new aviary, not to mention 3 other cages!!!

My name is Lori and I am a birdaholic.

Basically same story as yours, except no aviary and all cages, bird room and overflowing into kitchen in a large flight cage.

Can't promise it will ever pass.

Have fun at the bird fair!
Substitute "Lori" with "Mia" and you've basically got me! LOL

I started fostering a few finches that nobody else wanted and the shelter I volunteered at didn't have room for them, so they came home with me!

I didn't think I could have birds because of all the cats and dogs. But I worked out a system and they do just fine.

And then one led to another and another and now I have a bird room!
I'm re-doing it to make it more space efficient and if my math is correct, I should have room for about 50 finches in all and a handful of larger birds.

Oh yes, it only gets worse.

vienneparis I'll be honest, by the end of summer I do start to think 'what the heck did I get myself into??' but I love it.

My mom is honestly my life saviour. She is retired and lives with me, so she does the morning feeds and supper during winter when it gets dark before I get home from work. I still chop up all the fresh food every morning and have the dishes prepared. Weekends it's at least half a day gone just cleaning the aviary's and washing bowls etc but it's worth it. Summer can be a pain, as I breed mealworms then and have to do more nest checks, removing youngsters from the breeding aviary's to the juvie flight etc. One day it might get too much but for now, it's still my happy place :D

This gives me all the right to keep going...buying birds, searching pet stores for new stuff, online searches to learn about MORE birds, burning gas to travel to bird marts far and wide, saving money to buy MORE cages, build outdoor aviaries to EXPAND my obsession!!! Na na na boo boo, you can't catch me...

I am not a bird addict like you guys. Sometimes a whole week goes by without me buying a single bird! Then maybe the next week I would buy 2 birds. So there you have it, I have it under control. I am not a bird addict. =D>

Sorry...but's it's called "denial"... but that's my motto "deny deny deny...the window was open and "BAM they appeared, don't know how this happened"!?!? But I'll make due...it'll work...I have a job, I'll feed them, house them, clean up after them and find them "perfect" mates! It'll work!!!! I promise I'll close the window so this doesn't happen again!

I should have taken your advice and ran, but couldn't resist the call of the finches. I really must stop now that the total count reached 28!

Now I can just sit back and watch my birds settle in and make babies :D :D

Jen -- What birds?
I don't see any birds.

Denial is a great way to go! Works for everything in life!
I used to do that as a kid. It would drive my parents nuts! And it was really funny so they couldn't get angry. It went something like....
Mom: "Where were you? Did you sneak out?"
Me: "Um no.....I was getting the mail....at 2:00 a.m."
Mom: "So where is it?"
Me: "Where's what?"
Mom: "The mail?"
Me: "Oh, um #-o ....looks like there's no mail today."

...or....

Dad: "Is that a tattoo?" (Which my mum took me to get, BTW!)
Me: "Nope."
Dad lifts pant leg.
Dad: "Sure looks like one."
Me: "Nope. I don't see anything."
Dad: "So it's a Mickey Mouse-shaped freckle."
Me: "I have no idea what you're talking about. I don't see anything." 8)

Deny, deny, deny!
Let's practice!
"Is that a new bird?"
"Nope. Already had this guy. We just went out for a drive together."
Humum to....
13 Zebra Finches....and 2 squeeps!
3 Society Finches
6 Gouldians
1 Weaver
1 Pintail Whydah
2 Cockatiels
2 Parakeets

....along with 1 MinPin, 1 Pug, 1 JRT, 1 Yorkie, 2 Chihuahuas and 15 cats.
