Texas breeders all species shout out!

Post by Mrs.V-Perez » Sat Sep 27, 2014 12:15 pm

Ok Texas is huge! Where are all the breeders at?
Please list your birds, how long you been breeding .
What you are interested in such as trades , air shipping yes or no, typical prices.
Thank you guys for participating.
It's really hard to locate breeders , I'm hoping this will narrow down the hunts for everyone.
Blessings of Love and Compassion to all,
Mrs.V-Perez

Colt with Brushy Creek Aviary and Aquascapes

Located in North East Texas about an hour from Dallas and an hour and a half from Tyler.

I currently work with all the species in my signature, but I'll list them here again:

- Gold-breasted Waxbill
- Orange-cheeked Waxbill
- Star Finch (Yellow and Red-faced; also Isabelle)
- Shaft-tail (Normal and Isabelle)
- Gouldian (RH/YH/BH, PB/WB, GB/YB/BB)
- Society (Self-colored Grey, Black Grey, Fawn, Chestnut, Dilute, Pied in most colors, as well as Crested)
- Zebras (Normal Grey, Chestnut-flanked White, Black Cheek, Florida Silver, Orange Breast, Fawn, Silver, and Pied)
- Owls (Normal and Fawn)
- Diamond Doves (Normal Blue)

I'm only 26, so this is my first year breeding most of these species very seriously. I have had birds my whole life though. I'd rather not ship birds and since I drive so much it's easier for me to meet people or have them come to the house, but I would probably ship if I knew all the ends and outs. I've shipped poultry quite a bit, but the finches are a bit more delicate.

Regarding prices it would depend on the mutation on some of the birds but here's a very rough estimate:

Gold-breasted Waxbills: $35
Orange-cheeked Waxbills: $35
Gouldians: $60-$110
Shaft-tail: $35-$45
Zebras: $10-$18
Societies: Self - $20, Crested - $15, Pied - $10
Stars: $45-$65
Owls: $70-$100
Diamond Doves: $20

I also have a business page through Facebook that is linked in my signature.

Chestnut-breasted Mannikin

I know there are other breeders here in Texas...lol

@Sally
@finchmix22
@KarenB (for all the babies you're going to start having)
@Chris103
@FinchesRUS
@Jason in TX
@SeaChelle
@Lacybug

That's everyone I can think of off the top of my head but I'm sure there are many more.

If you get on Facebook there is a Birdaholics page where you can post birds for sale, etc. The Finchaholics page is strictly sharing and questions. No sales. You can meet a lot of breeders through there. I know of several others who aren't members here but are through some of the Facebook pages.

Strawberry Patch Aviary

I am south of Fort Worth, and I work with waxbills for the most part. I have not done any breeding for over a year, took a hiatus, but am getting back into it. I do ship via United or Delta. I work with the species listed in my signature, and I do NFSS closed-band all babies.

Mrs.V-Perez@WrenNAustinTX@Colt I will move this topic to the Resources forum. There are many other breeders in Texas, but many of them are not members of this forum.

I have a few birds ready right now. I have three red throated firefinches from a single clutch, and six society finches, also from a single clutch. My owl finches are hatching a clutch as I type this. I have three different African species sitting on eggs, but I don't yet know if any eggs from them are viable or if any have hatched. I am new to breeding, and for me it is a sideline hobby. I have never shipped live animals, and I don't think I feel comfortable doing so, which is why I have not responded to this thread. But since Colt outted me, there you have it. :)

Rachelle in Frisco, TX

I've kept finches for only two years now, so I'm just getting started in the hobby. I've brought home some beautiful birds from breeders in the North Texas area and will hopefully start breeding my own soon. My first clutch of societies found really great homes and that's the most important thing to me. I don't think I will be shipping, but I am interested in trades.

I currently have owls, BCCBs, and societies. I am going to try to add cherry finches and parrot finches soon also. If my husband has his way, some spice finches and strawberries also! :)

Correction: I have red throated PARROT finches, not red throated fire finches. Wouldn't it be something if I came up with THAT mutation!

Donna Cauley gave me that name. Back when I was first getting started with the Strawberries and having lots of babies, she made the comment that I had a strawberry patch, and I decided it was the perfect name for my hobby!

I'm in Houston. I don't consider myself a breeder but I have been very successful with gouldians. Also have fawn and grey societies and they are always on a clutch. I will be getting into waxbills soon (strawberry finches) and I hope they bring me as much joy as my gouldians and societies. Don't mind trades with local breeders/hobbyist.
Joshua

Societies: Fawn, Gray, & Ino
Gouldians: GBs, YBs, and BBs
Strawberries: Amandava amandava

Started finching 05.14.2013
(List keeps getting longer every time you look at it...)

Will any Northeast Texas breeders be at birdmart in May? Just lost my pair of redcheeked cordon blues and I need finches back in my life! I've always raised larger hook bills and various parrot breeds but once my husband bought my first pair of finches for me about 5 years ago I was hooked! I'm so sad that I didn't get a fledgling off these guys:(. Had them hatch one successful clutch on their own before I could move societies in to foster...but my male killed them at 5days old. I have 2 big empty flight cages that need occupants! I'm hoping to find a pair of Swee/yellow bellied waxbills and perhaps a couple societies or RC cordon blues again. I'm in Shreveport and hoping to find nearby breeders or folks traveling to fairs in North Texas or Louisiana that we can meet at so that I don't have to ship these babies!
