Finches are strange or is it the owner?

Well, September 29th I found my first egg of the 3rd attempt at breeding a new family, they since then had NO more eggs and abandoned it.

THE TENANT

Now they are eyeing a top right breeding cage and heavens knows if they will be going to deposit 7 eggs as per normal in that as they do normally......

OWNER was so hacked off at all this SO he decided to also do a Zeb thing and also build......

So, I decided to build a ramp to push up my aviary at night, we leave it inside at night, but when I am on my own I have a problem to move it , so I built a ramp today, and it was put to the test today, it works very well.

So, lets hope the 4th attempt will work..........

Yes, finches are strange! (But perhaps you are too? I've always said strange = interesting!)

I've noticed these half-hearted breeding attempts tend to occur when they're unhappy with something in the equation. In my case, it was the nest. We have little open nests that are used during the day as hang-outs. We've had birds try to nest in them once or twice, but they abandoned when their attempts at building walls and a ceiling from millet sprays failed.

So I'd look at the set-up to see if there's something that's not to their liking. Perhaps a couple different nest styles, different nesting materials, etc. I'd also put up some foliage in there. It's super bare and that leaves them staring at each other. They may not feel sufficiently protected/hidden.

And if all else fails, perhaps see if it helps to separate a couple out of the aviary and into a cage? Maybe there's just too much disturbance in the aviary setting?

Your ramp is looking very good. Normally birds abandon their eggs or chicks if we change their cage location or even nest location within an aviary/cage. So, I am not sure if your finches would sit on their eggs in next attempt if you keep moving your aviary inside at night daily.

Thanks for all the info, ok the next attempt I will not move the cage at all. Anyway we can only try, I so badly want my pair to have a family, I just want to give them the best life possible and that can be clearly seen in all my posts thus far, I look after them and made them a real million $$ mansion.
