Early summer bird pics
So spring has come and Summer has arrived, I think, judging by how windy it has gotten.
Today is a miserable cool rainy day, but on Sunday it was decent and I took pics of my birds.
I have quite a reduced flock and most are old and don't breed anymore, but some still look good on the eye regardless.
Yellow Bishops getting their final summer plumage: A few odds:
The Gouldian hen is adjusting to our environment. She came from much warmer climate and hopefully will be less puffed when she is done molting. My pair of Orange cheeked Waxbills:

Re: Early summer bird pics
My Firefinches have coloured out. The birds I bred myself are those dark red and plump ones. This other young pair I felt sorry for at a pet store and waiting for them to colour up. I don’t think they will have as much colour as my current ones, but needed new blood in my aviary.
new pair still colouring out into adult plumage.

Looking good. I just love the fuzzy hair- cut on top of the bishop.
It's almost hard to believe that your Summer is just starting, even as our Winter is begining to role in. Could I convince you to trade?

lovezebs Elana I won't be interested in trading any time soon. Maybe in a few months when summer is blazing hot I'd appreciate some cool.
Yeah I love watching the Bishops display. They start with the fuzzy hair do and then give a chirp and a bop and fly up into a black and yellow puff ball. Ladies think they look fantastic when they do that

Sheesh! No one wants our Canadian winter..... I'm willing to throw in a lot of freebies too... snow, ice, blizzards, cool refreshing winds (well bone numbing actually), ice pellets, freezing rain, endless grey days with double digit sub zero teperatures..... Who wouldn't want some of that???
Come on folks, this free offer won't last for long. Only five or six months. Get it while the getting is good.

Re: Early summer bird pics
monotwine beautiful birds as always! It's weird, i was just looking at your signature before reading this post and thought you had more than that. Hopefully you'll get plenty of babies this season to build your flock back up. Good luck! Also are you getting a male gouldian for your hen?

EISH! South African saying of exclamation and pity all in one. Your winters sound harsh! Sorry no takers here.
The bishops are about the size of a very large Gouldian or like a buff green singer. They are not that big, but have big personalities. I liked them because they were so small. I always expected them to be bigger in person. I see them often on the roads in the country and well never stopped to measure one so was surprised to see their size when I found these at a trader. No idea how old they are.
I would have loved to have bred them, but each year they lay multiple clutches and all are infertile even though they incubate well. So they have been deemed old, but still pretty.
@DanteD716 Yeah mostly I had many Parrot finches. Unfortunately I had a nasty virus come through my flock in Spring. Lost a lot of birds and there was no cure for it only management. Had to euthanasia most of my parrot finches (my younger breeding stock), my gloster canary and my old owl.
BUT I have many lovely bird friends that are helping me build stock back up.
I hope to get a male for my Gouldian, but he is a tad pricy to replace here, as I need a split blue or blue to pair her with. Lost him during quarantine. Cannot afford a mate for her right now, so may have to sell her on until I can reinvest in trying blues.

So sorry to hear, that's very sad. Hopefully you can get your numbers up again. I think you should hold onto her until you can get her a mate. monotwine Your birds are looking good. Sorry to hear about your parrotfinches. I have some young ones, Seagreen and one RF but are still very young. The seagreen must female according to the genetic mix.

lovezebs As Monotwine said, EISH!!! You guys have horrid winters. I will happily stick with our mild African winters where we all think we are going to freeze to death if it drops below 0'C

monotwine I see in your signature that you have 5 parrotfinches left? Let me know what you need, I don't know what you have of breedable age.
