Photos of my Zebra's and their cage.

Post by HeyItsRaymond » Thu Dec 25, 2014 12:41 am

Recently decided to get into owning Finches. Researched as much as I could.

This is their cage. I currently have 3 pairs in here. I feel like that is the max I can comfortably fit in this cage.

That is a great cage, I have several of them. That is the max you probably want to have in there, and to be honest, if they are breeding, you may find it is too small, because then you will soon have more birds in there than is comfortable. They may start squabbling over territory.

I've ordered 20 fake finch eggs so I can prevent them from breeding. I want to let them raise one clutch just so I can see what it's like. But I don't plan on or want to make it a regular thing.

The fake eggs can be used to fool the birds, they may incubate the fakes. The other option is to remove eggs as you see them. One thing to keep in mind is that nests = breeding with finches. They really don't need nests for sleeping, and the nests will encourage them to lay eggs.

I like having the nests since it adds a nice place for them relax and sleep. I ordered the fake eggs and hope to just switch them out as they lay eggs. I've read that it'll prevent the females from endlessly laying eggs since they'll be incubating eggs, even if they are fake.

Yes, the fake eggs can help with that.

That's a nice cage. I have one in light gray for my parrotfinch pair and gouldian pair. I'd love to have a whole roomful of them :D

One word of caution on letting your finches breed. Once you've experience the eggs hatch, then babies grow up and fledge, you may get hooked on it and want more. Just saying.

I love these. I cannot find any in my area so I'll have to wait and see what comes by.

Last potential sale, someone tried selling me 21 zebras from the same parents and even the siblings mated... Eww.

Thanks. I've really enjoyed my birds so far. I'm hoping to get one more of this exact same cage so I can get another breed. I really like the Lady Gouldian Finch and Owls (Maybe in a mixed aviary) and the jet black Combassou Finches.

Beautiful cage. I actually ordered that exact same cage online, I'm just waiting for it to arrive. Do you like it so far? Your Zebras look like a good bunch. =D>

I love it. Actually going to purchase a second one like it so I can get a few different species of finch.

I love the cage! I have a very similar flight cage myself. I plan on getting some fake plants to add myself.

What I do not have is the light. Can you give me some info on what kind and wattage please?

Also do you cover your birds up at night?
