dont remember where it is on the forum but I copied it to a word document so i could print it:

Basic Birdie Bread

Ingredients:

1 box Jiffy Corn Muffin Mix
3 tablespoons cornmeal
1 tablespoon peanut butter
1 small jar-baby food sweet potatoes
3 eggs
1/2 cup apple juice
2 eggshells, finely ground to a powder
OR scrape cuttlebone with a
knife about 1 teaspoon

Directions:

Prepare muffin mix as directed on package. Add the 2 additional eggs and all of the remaining ingredients. Mix well until peanut butter is dissolved. Pour into a greased 8x8 inch square pan. Bake at 325 for 25-30 minutes. Cut into 1 inch squares and wrap rows of pieces in plastic wrap. Put all rows of pieces in one large bag. Defrost one piece as needed.

To the basic birdie bread recipe listed below I also have added an additional 1/2 cup of veggies and up to 1 & 1/2 cups of seeds or pellets and the bread still comes out fine. You just have to experiment and see what your birds will like. If you don't have juice I have also used V-8 tomato as a substitute.

3-4 Tablespoons of Kaytee Exact Handfeeding Formula
Nekton-Bio or Nekton-S Vitamin Supplement

**as a n ote, I baked mine for 25 minutes and it came out a little burnt, you may want to check it at 15 to 20 minutes to make sure yours doesnt get too crispy!

Has anyone in Canada EVER seen Jiffy Corn Muffin Mix? I've searched and searched my grocery stores for it... nothing! No corn muffin mix at all. What gives?

Omigosh, no corn muffin mix at all? I would die! It is a staple in my pantry, not only for the birds but for me, too! Doesn't Canada grow a lot of corn, or is it mostly wheat?

You don't have to use Jiffy Corn bread mix....it does make it a little quicker though. You can just use corn meal mix for making cornbread or muffins and modify that.

If you Google "Birdie Bread Recipes" or "Bird Bread Recipes" you will find a wealth of different recipes with all kinds of different ingredients.

It is just a matter of finding one that works for you. Some recipes have a lot of extra sugary ingredients in them....more for large parrots. But there are some out there that are simpler....just takes a little looking....like going through a recipe book. :D

does it matter what kind of apple juice, baby food, and peanut butter you use?

Not sure if it matters.... I just used Gerber swwet potatoes and natural apple juice. PB was what was in the pantry... Mine is baking in the oven now....
I bought little mini cupcake tins and thats what I used....

Added bird seed, zuchinni, dry egg food and xtra egg shells.....
So far all looks good!

I hope the birds like it.... Pretty sure the fledglings will.... They are VERY curious..
Good Luck,
Adieakty
