Forgive me, RIP Sweet Steve

Although they are technically passerines, canaries tend to be managed uniquely, so here is a forum just for them!

Sheather -- Oh Dylan.
That's so awful.
This entire situation is so awful. I get a lump in my throat and teary eyed whenever it comes to mind. It's amongst my worst fears.

Watching animals mourn is SO difficult and it really does make a bad situation even worse. It makes you feel horribly helpless that you can't fix the situation.

I too know what it feels like to have your happy place turned into a not-so-happy place. It's really difficult.

I'm glad Weaver is doing well. Thank goodness he's eating for you and that you have a schedule that allows you to care for him/her.
S/he will be a little piece of Steve who can carry on.
An extra special little blessing from the bird gods. Perhaps s/he'll be blessed with some of the lovely qualities that made Steve so very quirky and wonderful.

MiaCarter

Here's Weaver tonight, after a hearty meal of cooked broccoli, mashed apple, mashed boiled egg, and Lafeber's formula (very pasty as he takes globs and swallows them. I'm also offering him water from my fingers as I don't know if he gets enough from food alone at this age or what).

I am indeed glad that we have him, his survival means Steve isn't completely gone from our lives and does live on, in a way, even if he's his own being and cannot replace her.

Oh the sweet face!
Look at him! He's beautiful, Dylan!
He's looking so grown up!
Seems he has inherited his mom's propensity for crazy hair, albeit temporarily.
What a good boy. I'm glad he's eating well for you.

Sheather...Weaver is absolutely PRECIOUS!!! A keeper, for sure  . If you are worried about him getting enough nutrition to sustain him, try hand feeding formula. Add infant applesauce and pumpkin puree to it. My babies gobble that combo up, even if I start feeding them by hand this late in the game. They cant resist :) Sending you and your flock much love and tight hugs!!!

Well I just cried at work like I watched Titanic or something. I'm so sorry Dylan for your loss but the baby is looking fantastic.
