Our Walmart here doesn't carry it. Even asked the guy in automotive.

Anyway, did find it in Canadian Tire, but considerably more expensive tha US prices, at $14 for 33 lbs.

If you scroll up to one of my other posts here, tthere's a picture of a 'risk warning' due to silica dust.

I found my old loft of pigeons had a smell, that was the strangely cement like smell of bird poop regardless of how soon I had cleaned them!

With my finch cage, the wet newspaper can smell, but I put a whole newspaper down on the bottom then cover it with an inch of bird sand (I can afford to do because its a 3ft x 2ft sized floor) The sand definitely prevents wet paper smell as the sand soaks up most of the water, and then it evaporates quickly. Plus the birds like to eat bits of the sand and the grit particles that are added to it.

My diamond dove even likes to sand herself down sometimes, or she spreads her wings and tail out when the finches are bathing so she gets sprayed by the water!

Ive found 'poop off' spray to be excellent, it has a slightly weird smell that goes away after an hour or so, but the way it dissolves bird poop off of anything (including my leather sofa) without damaging surfaces or being dangerous to the birds is awesome. Got mine on ebay, £12 for a huge spray bottle.

As for people in your house complaining that birds smell, they should be thankful its not cats! People have cat litter in their houses full of stinky cat poo and wee all the time, and dogs smell too but mine is only a small guy!

Good luck anyway.

They're not like other pets! So clean little guys! But if the wet newspaper smells then the newspaper smells :P not the birds...

I think the consensus is, that all living creatures have a smell (including us humans).

Our pets, cats, birds, dogs, fish, hamsters, chickens, pigs, children, goats, lizards, goats, husbands, turtles, ferrets, etc. all smell........
All we can do, is keep them as clean as we can, and if acquaintances, friends, neighbors, and reletives, don't like the smell, they don't have to come over...... =)) =)) =))
