Gouldian Blue back babies? Showing Nodes in picture

Post by Babs _Owner » Wed Dec 09, 2015 4:18 pm

Here's finally a shot of Brat & Riccos 3 (one you can only see the butt) offspring hatched by foster societies. There is no yellow color in the middle nodes. The middle modes are white. Off spring are almost 9 days old now.

Father is RH/PB/BB
Mother is BH-YH/WB/GB

There a chance these are BB babies ?

Ooops Debbie I forgot to tag you in this. And yes I keep calling them nodes....they are nodules. Ugh I'm chanting the nodule word over and over until I remember it properly.

If the hen is split to Bb then absolutely there is a chance they are Blues

I have no idea if the hen is split-blue. :?: But my other gouldian "normal" clutch all have yellow nodules.

There's not even a hint of yellow on the middle nodule on these guys....all three of them.

Can split to blues (which will molt looking like normals) sometimes sport these white middle nodules even after a week?? Im pouring all over the internet til I am literally blue in the face on and not getting a definitive answer in my research. Most say white nodules=defininitely BBs. But I trust your word more.

Ill show the parents again.

I am thinking we are!!! This came WAY outta left field. I more flabbergasted than Bubba on a fumble at a tie game during the superbowl :-O

I have a feeling they are going to be WB, BB. The ones you like the best in the blues. <3

Just wish they were being raised under their mother's butt rather than fostered :|

Well, for all her yammering and moodswings and egg abandoning, we may have something amazing come out of it after all!

If Im seeing the genetic chart right, all the babies will be BH or have Ricco's color head. 50% chance of PB or WB.

Yep me too. I had to put it in a genetics calculator. I just peeked in the nest and the foster parents have stuffed them so full for the evening they cant raise their head.

I really like that these two fosters Broody & Brody opt for an open nest. Lets me get more of a peek into what is up.

Don't think there would be any WB offspring unless dad is split to WB. Kids should all be PB/WB

"If Im seeing the genetic chart right, all the babies will be BH or have Ricco's color head. 50% chance of PB or WB."
/ means "split to" not "and or" Not sure which calculator you guys are using or how it is displayed.

Brat is BH YTB.WB.Green the yellow tipped beak makes her genetically YH but she can't express it because she has no red gene.
Ricco we will assume is RH.PB.Blue I say assume because he also could be YH, you can not tell RH from YH in blue bodied birds.

As is you will get
males RH/BH/YH.PB/WB.Green/Blue
hens RH/YH.PB/WB.Green/Blue

If Ricco is YH you will get
males YH/BH.PB/WB.Green/Blue
hens YH.PB/WB.Green/Blue

If Brat is split to Blue you will get
males RH/BH/YH.PB/WB.Green/Blue and RH/BH/YH.PB/WB.Blue
hens RH/YH.PB/WB.Green/Blue and RH/YH.PB/WB.Blue

If Ricco is YH and Brat is split to Blue you will get
males YH/BH.PB/WB.Green/Blue and YH/BH.PB/WB.Blue
hens YH.PB/WB.Green/Blue and YH.PB/WB.Blue

You will not get any WB chicks unless Ricco is also split to WB

These three are going to be a real surprise when they color out. Seems there are/may be some interesting hidden genes behind them. 8)

Thanks for taking the time for that write-up Debbie. I cut and pasted it on my desktop so Bill can see all the possibilities :)

I do very much enjoy Ricco's very dark PB.

Tell those kids to eat to eat all their eggs and vegetables, so they'll go through their molt quick. I'm really curious, to see what they turn out to be :-).
