2016 Update

Post by sv452 » Thu Jan 07, 2016 2:53 pm

Hope that 2016 is treating all you kind people well.

I am quite excited to give a update on my little boys.

Their personalities have now shown completely. The white one is more reserved while the grey is quite the show off. With the exception that the white one gets quite annoyed when I brush my hair in the mornings.

Since the last time I got some advice on various topics things have been going so so well.

I changed the water tray to a cross between a water tube and a small bowl setup. This is working so nicely and the birds love it. now they drink water from the tube and bath in their little bath. Good times.

Also got them the mullet. Once they figured out the mullet is not trying to eat them in any manner they took quite a liking to it and it seems to be their favorite snack. they go nuts for it.

They seems to not really take a liking to fruits and veggies though. unless they are sneaky about it but mostly i take it out and it is untouched.

They do like their eggs though - I still think it is a little weird giving them eggs. lol

Then when it comes to them flying around outside their cage I am happy to say that there was much progress.
They get quite excited when I open the cage and they would get out and do laps together which I think is absolutely adorable. Once in a while it is a little bit of a mission with them getting back in their cage. I have had to turn off all the lights so it was dark and put them back into the cage. This went well and there was no struggling from the birds. Almost like they are not even figuring out that they where picked up and moved.

We have seen a nice big cage that is about 4x the size of the current cage and is on my shopping list.

I am quite keen to adopt a few more from the pet shop once I get the cage. Any special number of java's before it is a problem? so if I got two more for a total of 4 will that be fine?

I am going to stop typing now. Have a great time. :D

Sounds like you are off to a great start in the new year :D

Definitely stick to even numbers if you get more Java's, that way they can form pair bonds. 4 sounds like a good start. Just watch them closely in the beginning and don't be too worried if there is some sorting of pecking order quarrels when you introduce them all together. As long as there is no serious problems (like plucking or injury causing fighting), they should settle down together.

Good luck and keep us posted!
