New gold breasts!
Hello everybody. I just had to share my exciting news. I have debated for a while about getting A pair of owls or cordon Bleu. The Petsmart I went to didn't have owls but did have a pair of red cheek Cordon Bleu in a cage with a tiny pair of gold breasts. After watching them for a little while I was completely enamored with the active little gold breasts, Such tiny little things I couldn't resist!

Hi Elana! They seem to be settling in nicely never really leaving each other side. Very inquisitive and have been eating everything I put in the cage . They are better eaters than my gouldians. I was lucky yesterday to spend their first day with them. Today however I was gone for 12 hours and was a little concerned about them excaping my FO30 never having birds that tiny in it before. Glad to say when I got home tonight all was well. I have rearranged the cage a little bit to accommodate them putting in a few new nests and covering them up with plastic plants and giving them a few places to hide. Since arriving they have slept on a little shelf I put in near the top of the flight. In your experience do they usually sleep in the nest or roost on a perch?
Yesterday it was these little guys are too cute to resist. Today after doing some reading I realized that if I want them to breed I'm going to have to face the live food aspect.
and now considering what kind of live foods that I could actually do. Lol. Any suggestions you have there would be appreciated as well.

Good morning Kyle.
To answer your questions....
They should be ok in the F030 (the space between the bars is 3/8, if I remember right ). However, if you do manage to breed them, and get babies, from what I understand, you'll have to wrap some screen around the flight. Apparently they are incredibly tiny, and can squeeze between the bars. I have had adults squeeze between the 1/2 inch bars, when panicked .
My little guys, always sleep together on a perch.
As in regards to live foods: mini mealworms, and flightless fruit flies. Mine also enjoy fresh eggs, mixed with pulverized freeze dried meal worms.
Enjoy your tiny tots

Re: New gold breasts!
It has been a little over a week since my gold breasts arrived. After revamping the cage and adding new nests so everybody can have a place of their own, the gold breasts have decided to take up residency in the Society nest.
. It's more like a hotel room really as the gold breast spend a great deal of the day in there. When dusk settles out they come and in go the societies. There are six nests in there for them to choose from.
Like all real estate apparently this about location location location!
. We will see how it goes but I may wind up putting the Societies in another flight if they interfere too much with the gold breasts. They can be real busy bodys kind of like that neighbor who wants to chat every time you run into them . On the other hand they make all the other birds comfortable and secure with their nonchalant attitude.

Hey Kyle,
I had a situation, where a pair of my Gouldians laid eggs in a Society nest. The Socies, laid eggs in there as well.
Although my female Gouldian attempted to stay with her eggs, the Societies chased her out of the nest.
The Societies, ended up hatching the Gouldian eggs (not their own).
When the chicks were still fairly young, my male Gouldian went into the nest and tossed one of the chicks into the tub (drowning it). Another chick, disappeared (I believe that it was killed). The male Gouldian, attempted to toss the other chicks as well, while the female attempted to pluck them.
Luckily I caught them at it and moved them out of that flight.
The Socies, went on to successfully raise these chicks.
To this day, I believe, that the strange behavior of these two Gouldian parents, was to do with the fact that the Societies took over the nest. When the Gouldians, went back into the nest, they saw the chicks as intruders in 'their' nest.
The same Gouldian pair, went on to having a clutch the following year, hatching them, feeding the chicks, and being wonderful parents.
The reason I'm sharing this story, is that I wouldn't want you to end up with a similar situation with your Societies and Goldbreasts. Socies, will take over nests with eggs (just because they're Socies and they love sitting on eggs, and raising babies).
