Radu, I think you may have mixed up their sexes... The oranger one was singing in one of your videos... In video 3, the one that dropped the straw was the male from what I saw

The one with the white breast and orange cheeks is the female.

The other one, the gray one with a black line going horizontally on his breast is the male.

The female took out a straw, jumped on another stick and dropped it.

Have a look at this. The male's been sitting there for a while. It's as if that is his bed now. Also, I've noticed him trying to take out different stuff from the thing he's sitting on; was thinking he's trying to make the nest there? But nope. He just found a comfortable way of messing up that thing, while also sitting down. :))

They still haven't went inside the box. I think they need more time... Much more time. :\

This is weird. I've seen her carrying a coco fibre while "prodding" / slamming (not that extreme) into him, then grinding her beek on the stick / cage. Say x is the male, y is the female bird, - is the stick, | is the cage. Yeah, this is gonna be weird, but...
--y-----x| then -------y--x| then ---------yx|

If you know what I mean. I tried to film them but didn't manage to...

Later, I've seen THIS. Repeatedly. Is it that they are trying to build a nest THERE?

Silly birds, indeed!

I leave them out 3 times a week - basically, let the cage door open, and let them go wild for a few hours. Here's hoping they don't decide to build a nest somewhere else around my room, LOL!

So... Progress has been made !

I went to the petshop and got another basket. The type of basket that the first petshop employee told us more than a month ago that finches wouldn't like AT ALL.

Put it in the cage and what do you know, they're all over it !

I strapped it on the cage with two zip ties (it came with two metal wires that you were supposed to hang it onto the cage from, but they were short and weak, what the hell), and next thing you know it, they're building their nest in it.

All the coco strands that were on the bottom of the cage were now in the basket. Here are some pictures.

This is how it's been on the 30th of June.

This is how it's been yesterday (1st of July, evening).

This is how it is today (2nd of July, morning).

Prior to me taking the last photo, they were both sitting in the basket. He wasn't doing much, while she seemed to be trying to build some sort of side wall, or perhaps make a "ceiling" for it...?

They still have a bunch of "stuff" left in that "thing" that is hanged (hung, hang, whatever) on the cage (with coco strands and such), but I'll get some grass for them later today.

They've been building their nest... more & more.

A few days ago, they finished taking apart the "thing" that had cotton and coco strands in it... put them in the nest, of course.

Now, the nest is "overflowing"? I mean look at it. They've made it so big they can't even sit right in it - they sit with their tails up, lol!

Today, she started to rip out the paper that I covered the bottom tray in. The bottom tray being plastic, I thought wrapping it with magazine paper would be a good idea to protect it. Now she's ripping it apart to further build her nest! :))

Needless to say, there is no egg laid :P

What should I do?!
