Cuttlebone - Neither Gouldian has touched it.

Post by JerseyGuy » Mon Jul 04, 2016 3:12 pm

I have a Cuttlebone placed in the cage, attached to the side of the cage. It's been there since day one.
Neither Gouldian has touched it. Is this normal ?

Is the soft part of it facing towards the inside of your flight? Or conveniently facing a perch?

I have had some types of cuttle bone, that none of my birds would touch (don't know why).

What you can do, is grate or grind it up, and add it to your grit mix.

Are your birds eating crushed egg shells (another great source of calcium for them).

Yes, the soft part of the cuttlebone is facing inside the cage.

I have not offered crushed egg shell yet, as the birds have refused
to eat boiled egg.

I will crush up the egg shell tomorrow and place it in their food cup.

mine like the cuttlebone if I shave it with a knife and add it to the top of their seed.

I've never had finches or canaries that would touch cuttlebone.

I include the eggshells when I grind up boiled egg for them.

I also offer the blue mineral mix from Abba. It is mostly mollusk shells, plus minerals.

* Neither Gouldian has touched the Cuttlebone, so I'm going to remove it from the cage. I'll use ground up egg shell and offer that *
