Hello strangers!

Post by slwatson » Tue Aug 02, 2016 3:42 pm

I've been on this forum once since May, and I started missing the great updates and input from people, especially Babs, lovezebs, Sally, debbie276, Spreckles, and many others, so I thought it was time to give an update of my own.

Things seem to be going well! I did have some heartbreak when I lost my red factor canary hen Maggie. She held on for a week and nothing I did seemed to help. She wasn't with her new mate Glen very long at all before I had to humanely end her suffering. I still miss her singing and her beautiful fluffy feathers :( He seems to be doing well, so I haven't decided if I'll get him a new hen.

I've had a bit of a baby boom however! I have three new seagreen parrot finch fledglings, eleven new society fledglings who just weaned, and at least three more society hatchlings in the nest. I hadn't planned on allowing my societies to breed at this time, but I wanted more crested and there are several in the bunch :-BD

I've added some new beauties too. I now have a pair of Fiji or Peales parrot finches, and a pair of pacific parrotlets named Sam and Annie. Annie is a sweetheart, and loves to be pet and handled. Sam isn't thrilled with being pet, but he does like to hang out on my shoulder. They have their own pouches they stay in when they travel with me, and they seem to enjoy it. I'm currently waiting on a new male named Charlie who won't breed but will just be a companion bird and go to work with me.

I've got all of my other parrot finches with nests, but the only ones I'm having success with are my seagreen parrot finches. My blue faced pair built a beautiful nest, and I have a feeling there are eggs, but they won't sit. My red throated pair also made a nest, probably have eggs, but won't sit either. I also have a lutino blue faced male with what I think is possibly a blue faced male (hoping it's female but I swear I heard it sing last night), so of course, no eggs there. My Fiji or Peales pair haven't show any interest in nesting, but they're more than likely too young.

I'm ramping up the egg food for the gouldians as their breeding season draws closer, and I bought a beautiful dilute green back gouldian male. I'm very excited to see what his offspring will look like. I'm still terrible with gouldian genetics, so I'll probably have to post pics and get some info from genetic guru Debbie!

slwatson Welcome back! I've been very busy as well and not as active, but I still love to check in to the forum when I can! How have you been?

Hi Brian!

I've been doing pretty well :D I'm on my summer break, and we're about to start back to school in a couple of weeks. I'm a little frustrated at the moment from the lack of cooperation from my stubborn parrot finches  How are you doing?

Hi Stuart!

I fell in love with parrot finches the first time I saw a red throated pair at a bird mart. They're so active and fun to watch.

Yes stacie I think the colours on them are truly amazing and have some interesting mutations from them aswell,

There not to bad eaither when it comes to breeding them as they don't really need much in the way of live food unlike our little waxbill friends

Babs

Hi Babs!

Yes, those are my parrotlets, Annie and Sam. Elena inspired me to get some when I read about Kenzie. I try to make sure I spend time with them everyday. The female is very sweet and curious...the male isn't really thrilled with being pet, but he loves to play in my hair with the female and sit on my shoulder.

They are cute and little. :YMDAYDREAM: I've heard the males can turn out to be quite the little talkers.

Babs

Sam is very bonded to Annie, so when I take them out of their cage, I have to take both at the same time. I'm getting my new male, Charlie, very soon, and it will just be him and I, so hopefully he'll bond to me <3
