Btw, none of my fellow book fans have so far mentioned this book:

Glen Holland
Encyclopedia of Aviculture: Vol 1

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/088839 ... h-keywords

It sounds excellent, though also quite pricey.
It has long been on my wish list, and I would already have bough it if I didn't already have a similar-sounding German encyclopedia in 2 volumes:

Colour food won't work with these guys, lol.

The colours you describe, sound like very young birds, or females.
Did they look something like this (a juvie female)?

Regarding the book you mentioned, I haven't seen that one before, but then I haven't checked Amazon.uk....yet :D

The females look like that.
The males are distinctly "red" at front, but the red is a dull pink rather than real red.

That book is published in BC, Canada:

Also listed on amazon.ca, though ironically costs more than in the UK:

Well what do you know, there it is!

I had checked under Bird books on Amazon.ca, and it never showed up for me.
Way too much money though [-X

Well, quality often comes at a high price.

I have this book on my wish list for whenever I feel wealthy enough to splurge.

Well two more books have arrived...

The top two arrived, and the third at the bottom has apparantly gone missing

-Australian Finches, is not really worthwhile.

-Encyclopedia of Cage and Aviary Birds, has quite a few pretty and colorful photos at the begining of the book, with text at the back (which is a bit annoying, seeing as you have to jump back and forth), but as a whole it's a nice book.

A lot of reading to do now

Have any of the books on your wish list arrived yet?

A quick question....

Are the Bronze Winged Manikins the nasty ones, that want to murder everyone in the flight with them?

Yes, they have the nastiest reputation, though the blsck & whites must be close, too!
Magpie mannikins are more peaceful.

There is a pair of these up for sale through a breeder, but there were bells going off, so I decided to double check.

Thanks for the information :D

He also has a breeding (?) pair of Lavenders, but wants $180.00 for them, which is way too expensive for my wallet (especially when this breeder, has been known not to be the most honest individual).

The mannikins are supposed to be relatively easy breeders even in cages by African standars, so might be worth getting even if they end up in a cage of their own. They might also coexist fine with birds like your Javas or even zebras, especially with enough personal space given to them.
But a big Q would be whether they really are a pair !

I think I will pass on the Manikins.... too many if's and maybe's with these guys.

The Lavenders however.....
It seems like both of mine are either males or females, darn it :-L

I should check through my Pet Shop about ordering in a pair and how much it would cost me..... I just don't trust this Fredrick fellow to tell the truth....tends to breed his birds until they can't breed anymore, then sells them as " young proven pairs". Just can't stand dishonest people like that.

You should certainly not buy from sellers kniwn to be untrustworthy.
People don't usually sell proven pairs of rarer species.
They might even be same-sex.

My thoughts exactly, although (lol) if they were the same sex, but opposite to my two, I could end up with two pairs.... However, with my luck, I'd end up with four of the same gender #-o

Just joking
