The Growing Salad Bar
Hi All,
As mentioned in one of my other threads, I've decided to experiment with not just sprouting seeds, but letting them grow, then offering them to the kids to enjoy.
Well here is the growing salad bar...
Heading into the jungle No monsters or Finch eating trolls so far... So far so good, looks tastey... Bird's eye view from the highest perch, gotta get a closer look... Does the brave Zebra Finch return, or does he disappear, forever lost in the verds?
Do others dare to follow, treading cautiously over shadowed seed strewn trails?
Will his story become legend for the sacred Meep-Meep scrolls, to be whispered and repeated in hushed tones to younglings in the nest, as the wind sighs softly through the rustling leaves?

Re: The Growing Salad Bar
Sorry folks, pictures and notes came out in the wrong order, instead of top to bottom, bottom to top. For whatever the reason, it wouldn't let me fix it, shrug...
Kinda spoiled things a bit... sigh.....

I don't see a thing either. Apparently the forum software posted those pics as "attachments" which are unclickable.
OH I see what happened! The "attachment" icon is right next to the "Image" icon and to the wise (that means us olduns) those look almost the same cuz they're teensy tiny and could easily be misclicked.
On the plus side - LOVE the Meep-Meep scrolls, LOL!

Turn towards home, and go there. Many overs, over woods and fields, streams and hills, many overs. Just turn towards home. How else would one go there? Perhaps it was a dream, and you have awakened from it. May the earth rise up beneath you, with home in your heart, and your person waiting.

Babs
Just their regular seeds.
All you need:
Trays or containers
Organic black soil (no additives)
Plain seeds
Spray bottle with water
Plastic wrap
Place dirt in bottom of tray
Sprinkle seeds
Sprinkle thin cover of soil on top
Spray with water
Cover loosely with plastic wrap
Keep soil moist, but not soggy
Ones seedlings pop, place in a sunny spot and allow to grow
As easy as that

As long as you share with the birds, eh???
It's so easy, and they enjoy it so much.
Max the Brave, by the way is my little one legged, one winged Zebra, and is truly the bravest and most resillient little bird that I know.

Re: The Growing Salad Bar
Great idea! And when they are through with the greens they will also enjoy the soil. How big are you going to let them get before you give them to the kids?
2 owls
2 red-faced parrot finches
1 parrot finch hybrid
4 societies
7 gouldians
2 canaries
2 cocker spaniels

ann
About 1 or 2 inches tall.
They really enjoy it, and I'm kicking myself in the buns that I never tried it before. They've never been too keen on soaked or sprouted seeds, but this is great, it's like watching a bunch of hungry people in an all you can eat buffet.
I was always worried about the soil, and what might be in it. I think we worry too much about everything. I mean if you consider the birds in outdoor aviaries, they have access to soil, grass, and outdoor bugs, and in most cases they do better than our pampered indoor birds.
