Gouldian hen fluffing up
I am afraid that my bird is egg bound , although I have seen her poop and she is flying around the cage but she remains fluffed up , is it possible she was deprived of sleep , 2 days ago something kept waking them up and the birds in that cage kepts flying in the middle of the night , I kept turning the light on and off to make them settle down and after few tries they kept freaking out so I decided i should leave a somewhat dimmed light on their cage so that if they freaked out again and I was asleep they could know where they could land , to be honest the light wasn't that much dimmed..
The problem is only the hen is fluffing up the male gouldian is fine and singing and the society finch is also fine.
I've put egg shell in the cage and she instantly got down on the bottom of the cage to get the egg shell , although I know she loves egg shell when ever I put it in , I've put a warm water dish on the bottom of the cage in case she is egg bound so that she can bathe in it, any other suggestions .
I want to know what are the signs that the bird is sleep deprived , her eyes are half way opened but she keeps flying around the cage .
And yeah I have also put apple and it seems she doesent even wanna consider eating it.
I will add if I forgot to say anything so sorry if I am not adding things in a chronological order .

Re: Gouldian hen fluffing up
The temperature in the room is a little bit colder , 19 degrees celsius 66.2 fahrenheit but I don't think she would be fluffing up because of that , plus they are used to that kind of temperature as it avarages around 20 C , lowest in the room can be around 16 C so it isn't the worst..

She is chirping , flying around and what not acting normally , but she is fluffed up like a ball , it is really strange .
I was watching her just now and while she was chirping her voice cracked for a second , but she kept on chirping , I don't know whats going on , anyone had this kind of issue before?

If you are worried about her why don't you put her in a hospital cage? If you don't have one you can find out details about it on this site (lighting, temperature, etc.). When I have bird that I think looks sick it will spend a few days in the hospital. The problem always seems to resolve itself.

You noticed if they have been using the nest?
It doesn't seem like egg binding.
I would provide her with some hard boiled eggs, it has proteins and fats that she may be in need.

StodOne She doesn't look sick to me. She looks fairly active. in my experience a sick gouldian sits quite still, sometimes with it's head under the wing.

MariusStegmann She seems much better today , I never seen her so fluffed up , so i instantly thought that she was sick although she was active constantly flying about , she was just too fluffy even while flying .
Today she looks normal , slim I really don't know what was up that day , maybe she just was holding an egg and passed it? who knows , i cant even look inside the nest , and for the hospital cage , i do have one , the hard part is catching her , when I want to catch a bird I first close the doors , windows ..etc and let the bird I want to catch outside of the cage , and then by using some kind of curtain or something (sorry for not using apropriate terms , English is not my native language) so yeah it is really hard for me to catch a bird and put it in a hospital cage ..
