Female gouldian just lost her mate. How can we help?

Post by MCiccosanti » Sat Jul 29, 2017 5:10 pm

We just recently lost our male gouldian and now his mate is all alone. We don't want to continue with gouldians (we took them in as rescues) but want to make her as comfortable and happy as possible while she lives out the rest of her life.

What suggestions does everyone have that we can add to the cage or do for her to help her not feel so alone?

You could put a mirror in the cage.
But she is alone, and there isn't much you can do about that, short of getting another bird, maybe a society HEN.

She has a few mirrors already. We don't want to get another finch because we'll just be in this same situation down the line. As I mentioned, we don't want to continue with finches as we took this pair in as a rescue case

Give her away to someone with finches. Put an ad on craigslist or something like it for a free bird.

Don't give her away. Charge a little less than the going rate for a Gouldian. There are people out there looking for free birds to feed to their snakes. A lot are on a place like Craigs List.

wildbird But you feel rehoming her is the best option? We really love her but also want what would be best for her. She's probably around 5 years old.

If rehoming is the preferred method, would you or anyone you know be interested? I have no problem giving her to someone as long as I know they are going to treat her well.

If she is older and you wish to keep her try to make her as comfortable as possible, she is older and may not fair well with a move.
