I could try that recipe to perk up her spirits some.

Yes, I have placed her in a hospital cage and providing her whatever heat and light I can. During the past couple mornings she's been getting the morning sun, and throughout the remainder of the day I use an old turtle heat lamp with a 60w bulb.

I confess there's something else that might be another factor to her illness, and it didn't return until yesterday. Over a week and a half ago, she left a big mess of diarrhea and I had to clean up the cage to remove the horrid stench. After that she expelled normal droppings, until yesterday the smell came back on some of her droppings, although not as severely.

In case you're wondering the diarrhea was brown mixed with yellow, which I found out yesterday may be a sign of liver disease. Can't be anorexia as she's still eating regularly. I read people have used certain brands of apple cider vinegar as a temporary solution before sending their birds to a vet.

Kamoodle

You could try mixing a few drops of unfiltered organic vinegar into her drinking water, but I have a feeling that your birdie probably needs some form of antibiotics....

It sounds like some sort of a gastro/intestinal issue, combined with twirling, and who knows what else is going on.

Regretably we are not Vets :(

Well, sadly she doesn't seem to be recovering. I think the nerves on the lower half of her body are shot, since she's been unable to use her legs at all and it's likely also affected her digestive tract. I haven't seen her poop since yesterday (or she's able to expel liquid at least). She's still eating, and she's learned to drink from this bird dropper I've kept - whenever I offer it to her on a frequent basis.

I've witnessed her wings flutter uncontrollably, and due to her inability to use her legs she's forced to use her wings to get around. It's like a human only able to scrape along the ground with their arms.

When I gave her a little gatorade for electrolytes yesterday, she really drank it up. Poor thing.

I think it's too late to take her to a vet at this point. All I can do is keep nursing her for as long as possible.

Kamoodle

Poor little thing....

If she's unable to eliminate, then she's either constipated or her system is shutting down.

Keep her comfortble.

Keeping her comfortable, safe and hydrated is all I can do.

So hard to hold back the tears.

Belle had been looking so weak all day from her illness, and a little while ago she finally passed away. Just another futile effort to recover a sick bird, it felt. I really tried everything I could, short of taking her to a vet.

Kamoodle

I am so sorry that you lost little Belle. At least she's at peace now.

Sadly sometimes there is nothing we can do. At times even going to the vet doesn't help, because many vets know very little about tiny finches.
