My white male often moults out the tan patch on back until completely white and then sometimes it comes back but it in a different pattern which is rather strange.

pied had lots of sub varieties , from regular pied to total white going through a between transition like saddleback and the caped .
the dad has a faint fawn saddleback , mum is fawn , as i told u i have seen birds like yours and offspring exactly from pied, white , or cfw male and fawn hen .i'm thinking they 're a combo of pied cfw fawn
a question all speckled as u told them :D were hens isnt it ?
Both speckled ones were male. The fawn smudged white and fawn were female tho.

One of the speckled nestlings. They start of dark like a pied and then fade and the markings change.

when you look at the birds in the light does it appear that they have orange in the feathering? These birds are pieds.

Do you have pictures of mom and dad?

I think they is pics of the mother and father on the other post :) the father changes Color constantly like he can't make his mind up lol. The mother is just your usual fawn. If you go on the other post you should be able to find a pic.

This was the last baby, just before I sold him I think. His markings changed a lot. They are much paler than any pied I have ever seen. The speckles are also very odd as I don't think you usually get speckles like this.

Can assure you there is no speckled mutation, you can't create a new mutation, this is a combination of a few mutations.

Looking at your prior post... mom is fawn it is sexlinked, she can't give any visual fawns unless paired with a split to fawn male or visual fawn male. She will give split to fawn males.

looking at the dad based on the baby from the first clutch... he may be Isabel (or Florida Fancy depending where you are and what is available in your location) OB (orange breast, he may also have BB) he may also carry pied.... below are three Isabel OBBB, FFBBOB of mine see the pattern, some have the coloring darken as they get older... I am thinking the pied in yours is interfering with the pattern.

Did you purchase the parents or did they come from your stock? I wonder if the father is Isabel OB pied

think your parents are carrying hidden mutations.

Ah sorry cindy , I did not realise. Reason I asked haroun is because he's helped me with genetics and colours before. I also am finding it hard to think of my baby finches as pied when I had thought they weren't for so long. And it's odd how the markings are so light and also seem to speckles rather than the usual pied patches.

cindy wow the speckles are very similar to the babies you posted pics of. I purchased the mother from a pet store and the father was one I got given so neither are from my own stock. All I know is they have an "amazing" gene of some sort that makes the babies develop so much faster than my other finch babies. (And there was 7 in the last lot too)

Yes that actually makes sense because I don't think pied naturally makes speckles on the wings and certainly not every time! But if it's because of it being a pied version of what you showed above then that makes sense. Only how do I breed a full one of these ? I am keeping one of the speckled babies, so I could possibly breed this with something to get a proper Color from it perhaps?
