Can these finches be in this cage with parakeets?
Can I house 16 parakeets with 2 zebra finches (male and female) and 1 male green singer finch in the same large flight cage? The dimensions are 40"x30"x72" width length height
I could always make a divider out of wire mesh if needed

Re: Can these finches be in this cage with parakeets?
16 parakeets would overcrowd this cage by themselves, even though it is very big. You maybe able to get away with it, but it's going to be a lot of birds in each other's space and a LOT of mess.
The general answer to housing finches with parakeets is not to. Budgies can kill a finch easily if they want to. Not all want to. Males are more likely to live in peace than females whereas some females will want to kill anything smaller than themselves. If it was two male parakeets and some finches, I'd cautiously recommend trying it and seeing how they react. 16 parakeets, however, would absolutely overwhelm timid little finches in such a confined space even if they were all gentle (and with that many it's probable some of them would cause trouble.)
Don't try it.

If you divide the cage it can only hold a couple birds on each side.

Absolutely NO! Parakeets will kill the finches, or maim them. Had a freind house a bourke with her parakeets (All male) and they killed the bourke after co-habitating for a couple months very peacefully.
That cage is just the perfect size for one pair of finches, maybe two.

Re: Can these finches be in this cage with parakeets?
The cage can house ten or more finches - or parakeets - if it's set up well, that's an enormous cage by the dimensions given. But I wouldn't mix them.
I have cohabited about a dozen budgies with a few dozen finches in flight rooms before and never had any aggression but in confined spaces things are different.

Re: Can these finches be in this cage with parakeets?
The cage definitely would be overcrowded. Since there are more parakeets than finches, the finches can be easily picked on. Some parakeets can be a bit 'over curious' and start nipping at finches' toes as a form of amusement. Divide them into two groups, finches and parakeets.
Have a nice day!
