Strawberry Male plucking female's feathers

Post by swethakyadav » Fri Sep 07, 2018 2:00 pm

My strawberry Male has started to pluck feathers of the female. I am worried about this behavior. I am brand new to strawberries and have only had them for a week. Is this normal behavior ?

swethakyadav Strawberries can sometimes be pluckers. Usually it is when one of the pair is in breeding mode and getting overzealous about it. Do they have a nest and nesting materials? Not having a nest doesn't always stop Strawberries, as they often prefer to build their own anyway, but if there aren't any nesting materials available, they will pluck for feathers. Strawberries will use coco fiber/hay/grasses for nesting material, but they also need feathers to line the nest (they prefer white ones!).

Thank you Sally. The birds are new and I am still setting up the cage and adding new items.. now I have orchard grass hay, Coco fiber in there along with a couple of jute nests in case they want to use.
