Terramycin

Post by ShaneW » Thu Mar 19, 2009 4:35 am

Ive been told that it is a good idea to dose your birds with terramycin on a regular basis. Apparently there is a local breeder that doses every mon-fri.

What do you guys think about this? Terramycin is an antibiotic and I certainly wouldn't like to take antibiotics every week!!!

I think you absolutely should NOT use antibiotics for no good medical reason.

I can't imagine why someone would routinely dose every week with an antibiotic. Just like humans shouldn't have antibiotics all the time, neither should the birds (or any living thing). I wonder how his birds tolerate this (or maybe they don't, and he just doesn't say).

Giving antibiotics that often will render the birds immuned to them. Then if the bird really needed meds they would have no effect. The antibiotics would kill off all good bacteria of the gut and cause yeast growth. This is an insane practice.
