Where do you get your replacement trays for the cages.
I've been searching and the only place that I found was FairestFinches, and they are backordered.
I'm looking for trays for the cages that I plan to build.
Or maybe I need to make my own trays.

For a wide cage 30" or 36" should I use 1 wide tray or 2 smaller trays?

Thanks B Camp.
hmmm a sheet metal shop is a good idea.
Then I'm not limited to the standard sizes. Cuz I want to make the cage as long as I can get to fit on the shelf, for max flight length. And I think that will be 33 or 34 inches...a wierd size.

I'll check Country Feathers as well.
Thanks

The prices at Country Feathers are pretty reasonable.
$132 for 4 split 30x18x180 cages, or $126 for the one w/o divider, or $141 for 6 split 24x16x16 is down at what it would cost to make them myself. And I could stack those, whereas mine would need a shelf to stack which would add to the cost.

Yes that is why I order from them. Very reasonable and the cages seem to be a heavier gauge than other companies and they have an extra door on each upper end for a nest box or whatever.
If you buy a 3 cases they will give you the wholesale price. But then the shipping is not included. But depending how far you live the shipping may be reasonable enough.
I just ordered 3 cases of the larger 30" long x 18" wide x 36" tall.
The cost after shipping was like $ 46.00 each. They are very nice.

That is a very good price for that size cage!

Is the floor grate removable on those cages? It is hard to tell looking at the pix on the CountryFeather site, but it looks like it might be. I think I will be ordering a pack of 4 next week.

I tried to make an all wire cage today...and I'm about ready to give up and buy them instead. The 1/2x1/2 wire mesh from OSH is not stiff enough for a 32" long cage. I was hoping to NOT have to use a wooden frame but that mesh requires a support for a 30"+ run. Live and learn. But the cost of the tools and supplies was about 40% of the price of 4 of the 30x18x18 cages. :-( Well maybe I'll make the smaller quaranteen and isolation cages out of the mesh.

The grates are not removable from these cages. I use mine with the grate as you can see in the pictures at the top.
I have made all wire cages of size like what you are doing but instead of putting them on a shelf I hung them from chains.... they were outside in a covered area with concrete that could be swept and hosed though. They had no tray. They needed no support though. 4 chains on each corner kept them perfect.
I also once took a metal shelf...like the ones you buy at the hardware store for your garage. It has holes all the way around for adjustable shelves and 2 cross bars for the back to keep it rigid......I put it together with a top shelf like normal and then a shelf upside down...so it had a lip. The other 2 shelves I added to the bottom for storage...but you could make another flight cage below.I attached the hardware cloth to the frame by using washers and nuts and bolts..just threaded them through the predrilled holes. On one end I cut out for a door and made a door and attached it with j clips. Then I made a spring mechanism for a closure. I filled the bottom with corncob bedding..now I would use care fresh bedding. when it became soiled I vacuumed it out and refilled.
It was a really cool cage.... you may be able to incorporate your hardware cloth into something like this. The large storage shelves make really large flights.
I guess you could get sheet metal and make a pan slightly smaller than the shelf and have it slide out.......
Where there is a will there is a way........ I have made a many bird cage...mostly because I didn't have much money in those days but still wanted to keep birds in larger quarters.

Great idea using the shelves as part of the cage.
I had been looking at some shelves but at $100 each, I might as well get the stackable cages. But now I will look for different (and hopefully cheaper) shelves. :-)
Thanks for the idea.
Anything to save money is worth it...more $ for birds (and feed).

It has been many years since I built those cages... I have no idea how much the metal shelves are these days. I know K mart sells them and probably wal mart.... in the tool department. They are usually grey in color. Also hardware stores.
I can't believe how much hardware cloth cost.... I bought 3 , 100 foot rolls , 3 foot tall last summer to enclose an aviary... It was a heavy gauge galvanize with no paint or coating. It cost $ 107.00 per roll ........ ............
I remeber I could buy the large shelves and a roll of wire, and all the bolts, nuts and washers (you need the washers large enough so the nut and bolt won't slip through the wire 1/2 " opening) for $75.00.......
That was probably in 1990............................. Let me know what you figure out.
