Gouldian color/price question
Is there a most common color combination with the Gouldians?
I would think the Blues would be least common hence the purchase price would be more than a more common colored Gouldian.
Im looking at the color combination here: Lady Gouldian Finch but what ones are more common (and less price) and what ones are less common (and higher price)?

From all my researches, prices is determined mostly by the colours of their backs.
Silver most expensive
Blues are pricey, but not as
Green backs are the least expensive
All prices can range, depending also on whether the bird is split to blue.
I am sure that Liz will chime in any minute now. Check out other members websites, it should give you a pretty good idea.

The prices vary greatly depending on the breeder, the quality of the birds, and the mutations.
Some people place a premium depending on head color and breast color mutations as well.
I would say the average prices for Breeding/Show quality Goulds from reputable breeders are as follows:
Normals (Green Back): $65-$100
Dilutes: $85-$125
Yellows: $100-$150
Blues: $150-$200
Silvers: $175-$250

I agree with the above advice. But the one you are looking at is a normal red head, purple breast, greenback. If this is your first time with gouldians this would be an excellent choice. You could get a male normal green back, purple breast and any head color (red, black, yellow...thought the yellow looks like orange to our eyes) These are very hardy and what you would find in the wild. To me they are still the most beautiful
Some of the blues, yellow, and silver can be pricey and not as hardy. So start with the basic.
Sometimes you can find breeders who will sell for a good price if they have a surplus of chicks.

With your pair, you can only get yellow heads and normal backs, although both the hen and cock are split to white breast so you could get YH, WB, NB chicks.cntrymeadow wrote:Thank you!
I have a pair that I think are beautiful and I just love.
Every time I try to do the genetic thing I get confused.
Funny about the silvers being more...as they are my least favorite!

a pair of normals in the uk arenixity wrote:That would be for a single bird.mickp wrote:Tiffany, the prices that you mentioned in your post are they for a single bird or for a pair of birds?
I would say pairs of normals [RH, PB, Green Back - no splits] start, on average, at about $125 and up.
normals £40
yellows £55
blues £80
silvers £100
albino £350
melanistic ????????????????
