The Senegals. They have laid and hatched babies for me but I always do something that scares them (purely by accident) and they abandon the nest. Maybe one day they will follow through. Anyway I sure do hope so. I am hoping the the new fires I have coming in will make them more determined in their nesting habits.

I have found that my fire finches are very shy. They are getting to where they aren't quite as shy as they were when I entered the aviary.

I love your pictures. I hope one day to have a pair of black and white mannikins.

I haven't seen many around at the bird marts. I will be going on this Saturday to the one in Atlanta. Maybe I will get lucky!

The Bl & Wh mannikins are great birds. Hardy, active, always look in tip top shape. And have a sheen to their feathers like no other.
I sure hope you find a pair.

Hey Johnboy,

We're also considering getting a pair of Bl/Wh mannakins to go with our Senegal fire's.

How do you find your Black and White's in relation to the fire's. The little we've seen of the black and whites, they seem even more nervous and shy then the fire's. Any pushiness, we were told the black and whites might bully the fire's a bit.

Tough call whether our next pair will be black and whites, bccb or orange cheeks.. I just love how the black simmers off the backs of those mannakins.

Those are really nice pics and the birds are beautiful. I wish I could post some. I still haven't figured out the camera

. I read somewhere that the Firefinches make good fosters***, can anyone confirm that? I'll have to backtrack and see if I can find out where I saw it. Again, JohnBoy, nice pics of nice birds. I love the vibrant color of the Firefinches.

Before they were put into the aviary they were caged together for approx. 8 months. They got along great and even shared perches together.
