Look what JohnBoy sent me!

Post by cindy » Tue Nov 03, 2009 4:16 pm

JohnBoy sent me finches, they arrived today!!!!

They are stunning. He sent me a pair of zebras, a pair of young Silverbills and 4 Societies. One is a pearl female, a fawn male and female and a chocolate male. I tried to get pictures but the societies were fliting about, so please excuse them if they are not as clear.

JohnBoy mailed them USPS yesterday at 3 and they arrived first thing this morning. I called the post office ahead of time and told them I was expecting birds. They said they would call me as soon as they come in. I got a call early this morning, the post office is 5 minutes from the house. When I walked in I could hear them singing. The man behind the counter said they were singing from the time they got there. They sang all the way home.

The Zebras settled right in and took a bath, they are so cute. I love the look of the Silverbill, as soon as I put them in the cage the male was singing. The Pearl is a very striking in person. One of the fawn females has a white marking right on her head that looks like a white bow! The chocolate and fawn males are very good looking, the chocolate reminds me of fudge ripple ice cream. I will wait a day or so to let them settle in and try to get more pictures.

I was to be honest a little nervous about having birds sent but it was an overnight trip from La. to Fla. It could not have gone any better. I am so excited and can't wait to put them out with my other birds.

My father told me I should build a aviary on the back enclosed pool/lania. I told my husband what he said...ah a winter project! :)

The Pearl societies picture is one John took and sent me.

I do Janine, good things do come in small packages. John picked out really nice birds. His Societies are lovely and full.

The Silverbills are realy pretty, I have only seen the lighter version in person, These have the nice darker brown coloring. They are very calm and have a light song.

The zebras beeped all the way home and made themselves comfy as soon as they got in their new cage.

John has really nice birds. Thank you John for taking the time to select beautiful birds for me. :D :D :D :D

Thank you Sally,

She is more dainty than the fawn female, more delicate looking in person. I didn't realize all the different mutations of societies there are until I started reading about them and reading everyone's posts about them.

I hope someday she has beautiful offspring.

I think the "finch bug" has hit Cindy for sure!!! =D>

Congratulations on all your new birds!! I also love silverbills.

I have one that has a splayed leg. It is the offspring of a pair I used to have, but donated to a classroom. They are the absolute sweetest little birds and mine even helps foster with the society finches.

Donna,

As soon as I got the silverbills into the cage and saw them I was smitten. They are the sweetest little things. They are young yet so it will be a while until they can have little ones.

I think I got over the issue of owning societies. The problem I had with them years ago may have been a fluke thing. I am glad I took the plunge. They are singing and chirping their hearts out. They all piled in one nest to sleep last night.

My other finches are in our large family room closest to my desk, my female RCCB chirps and the new birds hear from the other room and all chirp back.

I had to rework my shelving unit so instead of it being tall with 4 shelves I've broken it down into 5 sections/2 shelves each. It is easier to care for this way, no step stool (I am only 5 ft tall) Once all the cages are on it I'll post the picture.

I keep telling hubby we need a walk in avairy on the porch!!!! A honey do project. I could probably do it but he would rather I didn't use the table saw.

The Indian Silverbill are adorable. I have the African Silverbills and they are so darling. My pair is more relaxed when breeding than any birds I've had. They are not real defensive or nervous in regards to their nest. My pair let the societies into their nest to help feed their babies. lol!
