Any guesses?

Post by newlinta » Sun Nov 08, 2009 3:46 pm

I got this little silver gould last weekend at the bird show/mart (in Exton, Pa) from a "breeder" out of New Jersey.
Everyone thought it was a hen...
This week "she" has been singing(or at least trying to figure out how to) and dancing all over the quarantine/flight cage...lol.
HE looks like he will be white breasted with that tuft of white coming in right in the front...not sure about his head color...black,maybe?
Anyone who has raised silvers have any guesses?
Aslo, I was wondering if silvers are born with red eyes?
His are dark, but i swear sometimes, when the light hits them right, they are very deep red...?

It's so hard to tell on the silvers when they are this young because their heads all pretty much look the same until the feathers actually start coming in.

If he's RH or OH, it will look like a creamy beige color since he has the white breast - and if he's BH it will stay an off-white to white color.

Did the "breeder" tell you what the parents were? This would help narrow down the options.. :)

If you're looking for an early indicator, pluck a feather from his face and his breast, they will be replaced with adult plumage.
