Effect of a Gouldian tail

Post by aero » Wed Nov 18, 2009 11:33 pm

Hi all...
I have a question :?: . I find that the Gouldians - as they grow, begin to have their tail pointed - very long ones sometimes. Does it signify something? In my pair, the female has a very long and sharp tail compared to the male - which has a blunt short one.

Was just curious to know if it even meant anything or am I just getting over-curious :| !!!

thanks for all your replies :)

I don't think it has any meaning or purpose. Birds come in all forms and shapes as you know. Sometimes males look physically different than females.

Diversity in birds is amazing...maybe because of behaviour...
Long tails?

Stumpy tails?

Flat heads?

Some have bad tempers...

Some are friendly...

Some will fall out with anybody...

And some just love everybody...

Those are some long narrow tail wires for sure. Most times the males will have longer tail wires than the females. Though it all really depends on the line of the birds. Liz posted some that she had a while back and they had the longest wires ever. Though I think all those pictures were males. I have seen some females with exceptionally long wires but I don't think it means much.
Just genes... like some women can grow hair to the floor and some just can't :D

It's not unusual, I've seen all sorts of lengths over the years, cocks and hens. Not necessarily passed from parent to offspring either.
