Domenic, yes, it was me who asked about the CBs being with Owls. I'm going to start looking for some Owls soon. I find'em to be very attractive and every body says they're good finches to keep.
It's good that your CBs are friendly to your Owl. It must be hard for him to be without his mate after I don't know how long of being togather. I'd imagine they feel what humans feel when they lose someone close to them. But why don't you find him another mate ? I'm sure he'll be happier if you do. I hope I won't have to go thru that with my finches any time soon,ESPECIALLY not a sudden death. That's what really makes you upset- when they die suddenly without any apparent cause.

I know, Gouldians are unbelievably beautiful. Every time I see them at a show I come so close to buying some but I keep reading they're not the easiest to keep and that they're prone to diseases (air sac mites or something). I also live in a small place and don't have the space to add another cage (big), unless I stack a cage on top of the plexi-glass one I have. But still, I know one day I'm going to see one Gouldian too beautiful to resist buying. And those Pintailed parrot finches, I was just looking at some pics and they're gorgeous too. Now I want one. I think birds are God's most beautiful creatures followed by fish (tropical).
Yeah, I know. Those guys at the pet store must have been out of their minds to be asking that much for CBs. That was a while ago and they're probably more expensive now cause even cheap finches are getting more expensive here. A year ago I paid $ 35 for a Cut throat. Now, it sells for $80  at the same store. And a Green Singer used to be $80 and now it's $ 120  !! Ridiculous.
I paid $ 120 for my CB pair at a show.

Hi Franny. Yup, I got those finches from Joe at the show before the last one. He had a bunch of different finches including 3 or 4 pairs of CBs but almost all were sold within a short time. The past two shows he was the first to sell most of his birds right after opening. My experience with him was good. He was helpful and also honest with me. His birds seemed to be healthy too.
Well, with all the stuff I hear about CBs being very hard to breed and with my bad luck with breeding any kind of birds I don't think I'm going to have any success breeding these. The female always picks up a straw or grass and starts singing and dancing but the male shows no interest at all :(

Thanks solo. :D Glad to hear it, because he seems to be the best source for any of the more exotic type finches. I've found a breeder of gouldians whose birds I think I'd be happy with. But if I decide on FF or BCCBs or Strawberries he seems to be the only one who has or can get them, for a reasonable price.

You're welcome, Franny. Yeah, Joe is probably the only breeder with the biggest variety of finches, but he doesn't live around here as you might know. He lives in Peachland. And even though on his website he says he ships, when I asked him at the fair he said he didn't or wouldnt because it's too much hassle for him. So I don't know.

He comes down to the lower mainland often though. He goes to almost all the bird marts - canary shows in Vancouver, parrot clubs, any club mart. So if you wanted one from him you could just email and let him know what you want. If he can get it, he'll bring it to the next show. For the right birds I'd even go in to Vancouver, though I'd have to do it by bus, so would hope it would be in warmer weather. :)
