WOW! Ray, do you cut the wood yourself, or is that a "pre-formed" bookcase? Either way, where do you get the FRONT of the cages (that barred area) only, or do you buy the whole cage but only use the front?

Very nice!

Michelle, the Europeans are so far ahead of us as far as supplies that are available to them. They have companies that build those cage fronts, in many different sizes, at reasonable prices. They also have companies that build aviary panels, in many different sizes, at reasonable prices. We in the U.S. have to either build our own or pay quite high prices for European-style cages. In Canada, there is a man named Ernie Cobb who makes the bar cage fronts--the only one I have found in North America. And of course, with such a huge area to cover, if you can find what you want, shipping is a factor.

Glad you have somebody in Canada at least making cage fronts Sally...I've searched everywhere in the past and found nobody over there. And of course there is a huge range of feeders etc that are made to fit the bar fronts. It's got to be due to the fact that your manufacturers insist on making all wire breeding cages and ignore the preferred European box cage which is proved better for breeding with the extra privacy.

Nice job Ray. I was thinking myself that I have to make cages soon to accommodate the growing population. The cages that I see here on the market just don’t meet my needs.

Thanks for the information, Sally! It's hard to believe, isn't it, that they would be so hard to find here?! You would think there would be an awesome market for that here in the US, and where there is a market there is money to be made!

Thanks again! :)

a fast reply ( i did it before but it went some how into space  )

the wooden sheets you can buy them here at the size of aprox. 8x5 feet ( 2.44 x 122 meter )
these are sold in all kinda *home depot* shops , they cut it for you at the size you want it , so a good thinking and layout how you want your cage is the first thing to do .

after cutting you paint it with a WATER based paint ( i know a few that used the old regular paint and all the birds died cos the fumes thats comming out ) . [-X

the next step is putting them together with screws , although be sure you put a small line with silicon sealant between it , it gives the little blood sucking insects no space to hide and attack the birds at night .

the metal fronts i used are available in every animal shop , even getting sold online for cheap , they come with the eating and drinking and washing bowl/cup . if anyone is interested i could put up an addy where you can order these , they do ship overseas and the costs ain't that bad .

total costs off the 3 cages i made was aprox. 150 usd .... that ain't bad either

more question .... just ask

Ray
