What wonderful babies....especially the fire finches.... I congratulate you on keeping chicks with their parents.... not doubt this contributes to your success.....and the great care you give them :D
To me that is the most rewarding experience in bird keeping, is to observe the species live, breed and raise a family. It makes me feel that I have created an enviroment that they are happy in :D Again, good job :!:

today i sold the baby bullfinches to a real birdlover so i am not to upset about the money i got and the loss of the birds .

after a little check in the inside part ( winterjail ) of the aviary i found a nest with 10 Sint Helena eggs , all these i put in the Fosters nest , so we'll see what goes on with those 10 .

in the aviary ihave so far 10 nests from the Sint Helena's with no eggs , 1 nest with 5 eggs , and i found a nest build on the ground .

even i made a good trade , one young couple firefinches is moving out to a serious breeder and i get back a young couple and band 2009 Red-Browed Firetail . when i get them i make some pictures . next webaddy you know how they look http://www.flickr.com/photos/marj_k/2072418437/

a little update on this post and how it all went so far ....

breeding birds went very good with some species and not good with other species , senegal fire finches i got 18 young ones this breeding season ( 9 males and 9 females ) i kept only one pair and sold the last ones yesterday , bccb's only one young one and i am gonna keep it ( its a female ) , bull finches 6 young ones ( sold 4 before knowing what is was , still 2 in the aviary , its a male and a female ) , Sint Helena's is a pain in the a** this year with plenty eggs and babies but no one survived , societies 6 young ones ( they all move out ) , lesser redpoll's 4 babies and all sold ( had to buy a new female last week cos mom died  ) , today i cleaned the aviary and breeding cages , used raid to kill all eventualy buggs and other insects .
yesterday i also bought 2 new pair new birds .... one couple CB's with perm bands from 2009 and a perfect pair Red-browed Firetail Finches also with perm band 2009

Sounds like you did okay this year Ray - congratulations!! Did the Societies prove themselves as foster parents? Did they help at all that way? Your new birds sound and look great too! =D>

I love that red brow :!: Nice breeding season for most it sounds. Your pics of the bullfinches have really perked my interest in them. I may add them to my aviary. Are they pretty peaceful with gouldians..any problems with them crossbreeding?

the societies did good as fosters ( 6 firefinches + 1 bccb ) and there own young ones .

bullfinches are great with other birds , not agressive at all , only have to worry a bit for your plants in the aviary because they love and taste anything that is green , no worries for x-breeding aslong you have a couple , with a single bullfinch and a canary you will get x-breeds , don't get me wrong but a bull finch is about 3 times bigger than a gouldian  ...
if you can get them overthere you should try to breed them , they get attached so easily to the person that feeds it , it eats outa your hand and the male sings not to loud but beatifull .

Thanks Rayray,

I use to breed canaries, and have seen the bull/canary crosses. Never had one though.
I like personable birds that are like pets though. I will have to keep my eyes open for some.

The Red-browed Firetail Finches are very pretty! Are there breeders in the US who sell them too? And do they get along in a mixed aviary?

The bullfinches bring back fond memories! I remember watching them as a kid when they visited the bird feeder outside my grandmother's living room window... :-)
Walk-in aviary with Waxbills (6 Cordon Bleu, 3 Orange Cheek, 3 Black-rumped, 1 Lavender, ), 1 European Goldfinch, 4 Gouldians, 2 Spice Finches, 6 Owl Finches, 4 Budgies and 2 male Button Quail.
I also have 2 parrotlets, 3 dogs, 1 snake and 3 freshwater fishtanks.

Never mind, I just found this post which answers part of my questions...

http://www.finchforum.com/viewtopic.php ... 27&start=0

However, I am still curious if they would be ok in a mixed aviary. I found contradicting info on the web, some saying they do and are only aggressive during breeding season, some say they are pushy after getting comfortable with their surroundings...
