And my canary is also very personable...he's not my favourite-looking bird...but his personality makes his looks irrelevant...

Unfortunately price plays some factor in decisions on what species I get... You about the 10% factor... Or should I add another 0 to that 10?

But I would love a pair of canaries... Or owls. Shucks I might even stoop enough to get some gouldians if price didn't matter...

Just kidding here... But seriously, do those two or three, make good cage birds or better aviary birds?

Owls make great aviary birds; mine are like little flying acrobats. They are tricky to sex and can be a little expensive, though.

If you are going for personality and can only have one, I would go with a canary hen (love the canary song, but you are dealing with opposition here so I would think quieter is better).

If you are going to get a few, I would get societies for their cost/benefit ratio

Hi,
I had a betta that would come up to the top of the tank for me to pet!!

I suggest societies for all the reasons that other's have said, quieter, pretty songs, happier and less aggressive in a small number and small space. They are a ball to watch because they are so communal.
Also they are pretty small. Just a guess but maybe your Mom dislikes the idea of birds in cages, feels sorry for them (I struggle with that one myself). So the great thing about societies, if that is the issue, is that they never existed in the wild, they only exist as cage birds - and their behavior shows it. They are clearly happy and can fly around in a relatively small area.
The pig would live outside, right?

Yes of course!!!! lol jk We raise Bluebutts, which are Yorkshire/Hampshire cross and they get huge!!!

Zebras are also more skiddish than societies. When I clean or refill food in my zebras cage they have a fit and fly everywhere. Societies are calmer, quieter, and really sweet.

lol I wish... but they kinda cost money money money money... I could understand and maybe even justify over $100 for a goat. But for a finch, especially when I'm a beginner...

Just asked about outside pigs because some folks keep Vietnamese (sp?) pot bellied pigs as house pets. Clover is beautiful!

Yeah, I actually know a girl who had one kind of inside and outside... I guess you see why Clover is strictly an outdoors animal...

I love that pig to death. It's crazy but I think I like her as much as all my other animals.

But I still don't think I could call her beautiful...

Maybe I should start a thread on pets besides birds in the Off Topic forum...
