Cats on my cages
Hi, I am new to this forum. I am having a huge problem with keeping my kid's cats off my bird cages. Does anyone have any ideas? When I am right there I squirt them with a squirt bottle of water. They hate it, but it doesn't stop them if I am not right there.

We've read about this problem on this forum before. If you can't shut the cat out of the room that the birdcage is in, you could put something (like plexiglass) on the sides of the cage so you can see through but the cats can't get their claws into the bars for leverage nor into the birds. Just one suggestion, I'm sure there are many out there.

Re: Cats on my cages
I've had the same problem with my cats, since my cages have overflowed into my dining room, and there are no doors to close it off. I put plexiglass pieces on the cages where I could, and it seems to have helped. The birds don't even seem to be afraid of the cats any longer, which may not be such a good thing. Most of the cages are in stacks of three, so I don't even have to plexiglass all of the cages, just the bottom ones, and the cats can't get to the top.

I agree with Pooh bear!
Walk-in aviary with Waxbills (6 Cordon Bleu, 3 Orange Cheek, 3 Black-rumped, 1 Lavender, ), 1 European Goldfinch, 4 Gouldians, 2 Spice Finches, 6 Owl Finches, 4 Budgies and 2 male Button Quail.
I also have 2 parrotlets, 3 dogs, 1 snake and 3 freshwater fishtanks.

Re: Cats on my cages
My aviary was build with a plexiglass front to avoid the cats getting to it. The other cages are up way high, so that even I need a stepstool to gain access. Neither of my 2 cats are even going close now that they know that they have no access.

Thanks for the plexi idea. My husband is going to build me an even bigger one and I will do the front in plexi if it is at all within my financial reach. I am not fortunate enough to be able to close the birds off to the cats. I know it is stressful, that's what I am trying to fix.
