Feeding Java Finches
Is there anything i can use for feeding my Javas that will make it hard for them to waste food. I basically have to give them everyday when for other finches it takes a few days. They waste alot of seed and the eggfood, fruit, veggie mix. Can they eat out of seed hoppers?? I tried the seed hoppers in the past but was worried they werent able to get to the back where all the seeds were.

They should be able to get at the seeds in a seed hopper. Just watch the tray underneath for hulls, which will tell you that they are eating.
I LOVE my seed hoppers.
Much less waste and mess!

Did your seed hoppers help with less seed being wasted? They fling more seeds then they eat out of the trays. I will put the seed hoppers again and watch them

if it is a large seed hopper you can stand it in one of those round trays that go under plant pots i use a 10 " one and if they waste any it will go in the tray and you can reuse it

Re: Feeding Java Finches
i dont know whetehr it is obtainable where you live ,but have you tried paddy rice.i used to put in a hopper on its own especially for the javas, try not to give then too much as it is fattening but if you have them in a big flight cage or aviary it will be ok to feed it to them all the time as they will burn it off .you will also find that only the javas will eat this as it requires a strong beak to break the husk

I found it here, too, in Canada, at my local bird supply store. My society loves it.
