you're right Anna... its difficult to raise successfully finches sometimes and make them healthy... some finch parents are just not good parents also... it a hit and miss thing...the best part is that we enjoy watching them put color in our day and relieve stress...

I am getting my first pair of owls in 12 days (but who's counting)! Can't wait. I'm not looking to breed them, so I'm hoping for 2 males. They'll be from the same clutch - hope there's no aggression problem in a 30x18x18 flight. My 3 gouldian males get along great in their 31x22x45 cage. They sing and do the "courting dance" for each other all the time! Has anybody encountered problems with all male flights? :?: P.S. I'm new at this - this is my first time on the forum...

Welcome Gina. =D>
Gouldians are so laid back that you will very rarely see all male or all female flights showing any aggression.

hi Gina, for gouldians mine are also all males on one 2 x 2 x 4ft cage while the other cage are all females. i have not encountered problems with the all male gouldians however there is occasional picking at each other and some chasing. no problem if you have a bigger flight cage. twas my decision to just separate them so that the females wont be conditioned to breed when no males are around.

just to update: hatched 3 owl finch today. the next challenge is for the foster parents to raise them surpassing the 10 days. if they successfully raise them, the three will be added to my flight cages in the aviary. wish me luck on them

Finchman - I split these posts into their own thread as I felt the original postings were getting lost in the shuffle. Hope you don't mind!

Sorry for the delay on the updated pictures but I'm providing this maybe later or tomorrow morning. Was busy cleaning my aviary today.

By the way, fostered four eggs of which 3 eggs are already fertile ones from my owl breeder. I have to foster them since they started to throw one egg yesterday. I don't know if they were spooked or just their temperament to throw eggs or chick. This is their third clutch for this season.

Hi Liz/ Anna,
Here is the picture of the latest three(3) musketeers- owl babies for this season. Sorry for the blurry quality coz i did the picturetaking too quickly so as not to spook the foster parents also. We dont want them changing their minds while raising the babies.

Image

PS: have fostered another three eggs from the same breeding pair since they started to throw eggs on the cage floor. So sorry for that little owl whom the parents discarded. He could have lived longer hadnt been that i stepped in and had him fostered much earlier.
