Thanks everyone for the info!
Um, would a 15" tall and 20" wide cage be enough for this one bird?
What type of canary?

Re: What type of canary?
I have a "green" American Singer that I bought from a bird show a couple of months ago and he is the cutest thing. He's flitting about the room as I write this -- really wants to be a buddy. He'll land on the desk right next to my laptop, hop around, sit on the arm of my chair. Very tame and he was from a regular type breeder -- not hand-raised or anything like that. I let him out about an hour before dusk, and just before it starts to get dark, I turn the overhead light off and leave the room. He goes right back into his cage to roost, and I come back into the room and close the cage door for him.
I don't know if he is unusual or if all American Singers are so tame -- but if so, I think an American Singer would be a wonderful choice for you.
