Making Outside Branches Into Perches?

Most of mine were from apple trees in my parents yard. The bark is smooth and the tree are never sprayed.
I usually just scrubed them with a bit of dishsoap and hot water and let them air dry. Never had any problems with it. I dont usually grab branches from places that Im not sure of.

Maybe for branches you get in the woods, then I would definately clean them properly. Mites/ticks or whatever could be in those things. You never know.
