Its funny because my Zebbie, Beaky, makes an angry chatter noise or 'Ccchhhhsk' noise when I cover him up sometimes. He never does it any other time, and i've seen other Zebbies do it when they're angry on youtube (ie attacking their owner's hands).

I think a lot of birds can be surprising with the noises they make. I know that Shadow would ALWAYS make this happy little noise of contentment that sounded like a Hrmm! Sometimes it was excitedly others it was while he was relaxing and a lot of time while he was eating his broccoli. Mama would do it too when he would. When they are mad they make a noise that's like Mruhh! Almost like a grumble bark.. and I have only ever heard Kuri make squawk-hiss noise. Then there's the crazy yipping noises and squealing from the girls, the cuddle noises Shadow used to make with Kuri, and Sparrow making chirp noises and seagull noises. I wish I could capture all these sounds. I have to say I am rather upset I never got the cuddling noises Shadow would make but I probably got his little sigh of contentment!

My zebras do this! It's all throaty and grumpy, usually when I sleep in and they want to be uncovered or if they're building a nest and they keep dropping the material because it's too big, haha! I guess I could only call it a "craaaaaaaaugghhh." They make the same noise when they're mating, funnily enough.

The most AMAZING sounds come from my male BCCBs and male Stars. Unbelievable how such tiny creatures have such a huge assortment of sounds...

chirpy lol aww Big Butt doesn't fit.. maybe she shouldn't eat everything ever. Some of my birds are little fatties.. eating non-stop.. snacking all through the night. They are so cute though!! I can't wait to see what noises this new little guy makes and what his personality is. And I can't wait to get some pictures!! So far he has been meeping softly and sounds sweet.. but watch.. he will have the most horrendous shrieking unbearable song!!! Lol. I guess as long as he doesn't sound like a sea gull like Sparrow all will be well. I have a feeling I am going to be woken up by lots of finches calling to each other tomorrow with him realizing he's not alone and the rest acknowledging an intruder! I wonder what noises I will witness! I also think Sparrow is the only one that never made any grunt-like noises.. instead he has a shriek-squeal! Lol.. poor baby.

fhgwgads we were up til 5 am (Lon long long story...!) and we went to bed...
They starting singing and chirping.
He said "...why r yor birds going nuts its 5???!!!!"
Lol. It was the one time I felt the way he did. I was exhausted lol it did die down or I fell asleep til 6 when my daughter ran to bed. Im pretty sure it was rocksteady cause he was busting at his seams singing at a strange hour (post roost) nobody in sight. It was funny. Total solo til I asked "what are you doing?"

chirpy that's so funny! I mean not at your expense though... lol. I know sometimes if I can't sleep (because the neighbors downstairs stomp around and bang things like a bunch of elephants performing an exorcism) and I am up up all night my birds will realize it and wake earlier than usual. I know at night if the boyfriend goes in the kitchen to get something occasionally they will yell at him to get out because they want to sleep.. but if it's 4 or 5sm yet still dark they are excited to get up and start their day! Even if I finally start to fall asleep and a certain commercial plays with a little jingle one of the girls will start with quiet meeping here and there until they all start in. Occasionally Sparrow will suddenly burst into song for a moment. But so far this little guy is doing so good and settled down right away and has been quiet. But I can hear the elephants starting their ritual which occurs nightly between midnight and 4am so hopefully he doesn't end up having a night fright! I used to throw an industrial sized can of tomato sauce at the floor to give them a hint but since I've had the babies I haven't done it for fear of disturbing them!

the groaning noise you descibe is actually a friendly noise its usually given when a bird enters the nest wants its fellows to follow. i often have heard it from birds sitting on eggs when they want some company in the nest or want to swap over sitting duties. its effectively an 'invitation' into the nest
you never call me when your sobar

Hi Chirpy,
its nice to see you list Charlie, as well as your others. I love the name 'blackbeard' - nice as comparable to your other little 'pirate'.
