My Natural Red Food List

Although they are technically passerines, canaries tend to be managed uniquely, so here is a forum just for them!

Red quinoa can be found in grocery stores...mine carries it. Quinoa is great soaked over night until it chits...mix it with other veggies and egg food and they down it! Great protein as well.
Hello,

Red quinoa is also known as lambs quarter.
Red lentils cooked
Red and purple grapes
Red cabbage

I'll add these soon. I cannot copy them so I have to write them down from scratch and repost.

In addition to the usual vegetables and leafy greens my Red Factors get red chilli peppers, red capsicum (bell peppers), apple, tomato (no seeds) and grated carrots.

Whilst the Beta Carotenoids that they contain may assist a little with colour I feed them mainly because they like them and they are healthy. Canthaxanthin is all that is required for colour and it has always achieved the best results for me.

A study by a manufacturer suggests that Beta Carotene is a precursor to Canthaxanthin. In other words, it is metabolised by the bird to form Canthaxanthin. The simplest route is therefore to rely solely on Canthaxanthin. The article can be found here:
