Canary Fledge

Although they are technically passerines, canaries tend to be managed uniquely, so here is a forum just for them!

Sad when all the efforts were futile. I really wanted to see Spunky make it :(

I haven't had any luck with canaries so far. 1 pair (Esme & her mate) has been producing duds and another pair has no interest in mating!

Sigh....

I had to separate my Canaries, and remove all nests. They wouldn't stop breeding and laying. [-X

What's your secret for getting the canaries in the mood for breeding?

Candle light, Barry White music, Red wine....

No, seriously...... I think a lot of it depends on hours of light, and higher amounts of protein in their diet.

So sorry for your loss, it can be very heart breaking. All we can do is learn from our experience and see how we can make it better or avoid it from happening again.
If there are other birds in this aviary I'm surprised they didn't foster this baby. Maybe you are right, the parents seen something we couldn't and deiced to let him him go. If Esmee is finally having babies maybe she is getting strong enough and learning from the other unsuccessful clutches. I wouldn't give up just yet.
Let her rest and see if she wants to try again.

Good suggestion. I'll rest her for sure and let her recover from those clutches. Will see how she does.

Romance, why didn't I think of that :)
They get plenty of protein so maybe light is the problem. Esmee went into breeding mode too soon?
