Yes - you can leave it out indefinitely assuming it does not get soiled/pooped on.
You can definitely mix it in eggfood, but I typically offer mine in its own dish, or mixed in with things like charcoal, abba mineral grit, trace minerals powder, and oyster shell (I also use garlic powder and cinnamon, along with powdered zinc)..
