Agreed. Like most things, it's case specific. My sister had two cats. One that never showed interest in or injured any birds. And one that caused the death of at least two of her birds, by jumping 6+ feet up to the cages and hitting the birds through the bars.

Actually now that I think back, it also chased and ate another one of her birds that got out accidentaly during cage cleaning. The other (peaceful) cat didn't even try at all.

Sally -- Well said!
That's funny about the cat sleeping on top of the cages.
There was a time when I had just 1 cat and he did that with my rodents - rabbits, rats and guinea pigs. He would sit on top of their cages and ultimately, he befriended all of them, especially the bunny and guinea pig. When they were outside the cage, he would groom them and cuddle. It was very sweet.
He was also fine with the birds but never sat on their cage.
Having a large, intimidating bird in the bird room always helps! LOL When I've had larger parrots like macaws, who would come out of the bird room with me and they weren't at all fearful of the cats. But the cats couldn't say the same! They were terrified of a few of the larger birds and wouldn't set foot in the bird room, even if I left a can of tuna and a pile of catnip in there!
It's just a matter of finding a system that works for your animals and working to break any behavioral habits that have formed. It seems like this is a relatively new thing for this kitty, so hopefully he should be easy to reform. I've reformed cat-chasing dogs, bird-hunting cats and so on. It's possible. Just takes some time and effort, but it's worthwhile when you love them.
I hope you can find Hunter a new girlie soon so she can help him move on. Poor little guy.

Re: HELP! SHAFT TAIL GRIEVOUSLY INJURED!!!
Hey guys, sorry I think somehow my webpage was missing one page from the forum. So I didn't even see the content from Sally, about the cat. I just refresh my page now seeing more than 5 pages of forum from this post lol, anyway I already know it wasn't zebra finches, because even they are aggressive but not possible to cause all the bleeding part or looks like the wounded area has been tearing by something. I didn't know it was a cat tho
I really hope this will not happen in the future, since I know dog and cat always curious about birds and eventually try to hurt them too.

David
Thank you David.
~I did put up a temporary barrier around the bottom of the flight cage until I figure out something more permanent. I am also putting out feelers to see if I can find another girl for my boy. Regretably, they are not readily available around here. He is still looking for her and calling for her, which is very sad.
