So, here is the latest and greatest from the bird building

The wire was received damaged as you know and then we waited for the replacements to come and they sent them wrapped in plastic by Fedex - super long and super heavy - can you imagine what Fedex did to something that weighed 100 lbs? Yes, it arrived in the shape of a box but 7' tall and 2' wide long like a hot dog but shaped like a box because of all the bending and moving they did with it.

Moving forward with what we had and just received it was discovered they didn't even send the correct piece for the front radius wall  now I'm feeling really evil because if anyone knew my husband he doesn't stop and wait but keeps going and will make what he has do... good and bad there...

We start installing the wire and come to find out all the pieces are too wide or too long so what does my husband do - he MOVES ALL THE FRAMING TO FIT THE WIRE!!! Now normally this wouldn't be a problem but when I already sanded and clear coated all the framing and now he is moving and unscrewing the framing and well it just made a mess!

As of today all the wire is up and all the framing is complete and all the additional sanding is complete (as much as I care to do)... now the room needs a serious cleaning because of all the grinding, sanding and cutting to make it all work

Here is the latest - dirt included! Notice the front wall now has a picket fence on the bottom because the wire was not cut correctly from the vendor - at this point all that matters is that it is done :!: :!: :!:

It's beautiful Misty. =D> You and hubby did an excellent job fitting and prying. =D> Actually the bottom picket fence seems to only add to the decor.

Misty,

It looks REALLY nice! I think Janine is right---that picket fence just adds to the decor. =D>

Very nice :D I love the circular flight. It always seems things never go as easy as they should :?
Couple of questions, Is some of the wire opening larger the 1 x 1/2 inch? Looked larger to me in the picture. Do you breed birds larger than finches? Also, is that screen on the doors? I have always removed the screen and replaced with welded wire. I have had birds get thier nails caught in the screen.

I love the wooded background outside the windows. Can't wait to see the birds in it =D>

Misty, that looks wonderful! You two have done a fabulous job in building and finishing it off. Are those skylights in the roof. And I love the curved flight, so unique.

Everyone THANK YOU

The doors do have screen on them and in the past with the flights and cages Neil has built me I've never had a bird get their nails caught in them - we never used the screen everywhere but in one area like the top or the sides to allow for air flow - especially in the glass houses he has built me. If the birds get their nails caught then I will change them but for now I'm waiting... since I've never has a negative experience from using screen.

The wire is actually 1/2" x 3" but since the pvc is on it - the actual opening is less than 3/8" - I can only get my finger tips thru the opening... it is very narrow. I can't imagine any bird getting out thru the wire... not even the Goldbreasts. Because there is no give to it - it is solid and will not budge even if they tried.

We finished the spaces above the doors - so that is fixed and we are doing the safety box over the fan so no birds can get near the fan blades and we are putting a safety door on the outside too to keep critters out if they tried.

I expressed my concerns about snakes, mice, and rats to Neil and he said there is absolutely no way they are getting in anywhere... "impossible".

Next is the feed stations located outside each flight - still thinking about those. I thought I saw some pictures of some on this forum before ? :?
