Hi, I finally got a pic of the whole family of GS tonight. Mom hopped off the nest for a minute so I grabbed the pic and beat a hasty retreat to leave them alone again.
You can see in the lower pic below that the two parents (mom in the centre and dad in the lower right) are bright yellow and the babies are much duller. But is it still too early to tell what gender the three babies are? They are just starting to moult into their bright yellow feathers now.
Too early to tell Green Singer genders?

Thank you very much Janine - I'm rather proud of them myself.
I hope to see a similar pic of your GS family one day soon.

Great pictures! It it so nice to see other juveniles.
I remember, I discussed the sexing of Green Singer juveniles in this topic
http://www.finchforum.com/viewtopic.php ... &start=175.
I hadn't finished with all my juveniles at that time, but now I can say for sure that after their first molt at 2-3 months of age they become as bright as adult females, and the second molt between 5-6 months of age determines the sex. Males become brighter and females stay the same color. In some cases you can tell the sex after the first molt, but I was unable to tell for sure. The males start to sing before second molt, but females make similar sound too.

That's right - now I recall all your beautiful pics and the almost daily ones of the handfed chick. Wonderful storyline Ikhom!
Sounds like my 3 chicks have a very looong way to go before I will be able to tell what they are.
Thank you. I'll have to learn more patience.

I feel the same Liz. I'm still waiting for the youngest, my hand-fed to molt into his adult color. Yes, I'm sure he is a male and now over 5 months of age, but still not yet molting.L in Ontario wrote:Sounds like my 3 chicks have a very looong way to go before I will be able to tell what they are.Thank you.
