Is she a fawn zebra?

Post by FinchLover78 » Mon Dec 13, 2010 4:09 pm

I do not know how to tell the difference between colorings/types of finches, so can anyone tell me what she is? I know my male is colored like a standard run-of-the-mill Zebra.

What would you call her?

I don't think she is fawn, they are much more brown coloured. Looks a little like a silver or isabel (or single factor ff) or something. I think she looks more like my isabel than a fawn bird. Is that lacing in her wings? What is the colour of her tail?

This is my isabelImage

But I could be wrong since I don't own any fawns but those I have seen at Vargur's place are much more brown.

From your picture it looks like Grey Isabel (GIS), it's hard o see if she
is fawn Isabel, according to your description of a silver color than it sounds- Grey Isabel.
the other mutation that looks almost identical is Dominant Silver- Fawn (Dominant Cream).
What are the colors of the parents (both of them), maybe you can post a picture
of them, it might help.
3 pairs of Gouldian finches, 2 pairs of painted finches, 1 pair of fawn/normal owl finches, 1 pair of lutino/normal blue face PF , 2 dogs, 2 horses, many fish...

While not ruling out the Isabel mutation entirely, I'm more inclined to think she's a Florida Silver (aka Single Stage Florida Fancy) Even though there are some on this side of the ocean, Isabels are more commonly found Europe, while Florida Fancy is a very similar mutation that is uniquely American. For more info on both mutations check out the write up on efinch.

Very pretty young lady you have there. We actually have several that look very similar. The interesting thing about the Florida Silvers are the birds can vary in degrees of darkness. We just had to round up an escapee tonight that actually is a shade or two lighter than your little girl. She also shares the cage with some of her cousins that are just a wee bit darker. Definitely a lot of room for leeway in their colorings.
