Cuban Finches
Any one here keep Cubans?
I would like to get a pair.
Anybody else her from the Calgary area?
Are they a hard bird to keep?
Any harder than European Goldfinches or Goulds?

Re: Cuban Finches
I have a pair and find they are no harder than any other finches and fairly easy to breed as well. HTH

Re: Cuban Finches
sometimes the aggression factor that everyone talks about with cubans depends upon the nature of the individual bird, much the same as us humans I guess.
At present I have 8 cubans in my smaller aviary and have had no trouble. These birds being the cock & hen plus two clutches of young.
Have seen no signs of aggression from the cock toward any of the younger birds, even now with the youngsters being fully coloured.

I have one pair of cubans in my mixed aviary. I have never had any problems with them as far as agression. I have heard they can be very agressive, but I think it depends on the birds. The only problem I have is their nails grow very quickly and it is difficult to catch them up for a trim.

Re: Cuban Finches
Now that I have two pairs, I noticed the aggression of the males toward each other.
If they can see each other the males will hang on the side of the cage and make as much noise as possible.
If they cannot see each other but can hear the other then they settle down.
so I put some white material on the sides of the cage and they settled down nicely.

Congrats Jerry! I picked up a pair yesterday so hopefully I'll be in the same boat soon.
